Job Summary
CBC Sports is looking for an Executive Producer for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games. Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will be a key member of the leadership team of CBC Olympics. This position will work closely with two other Executive producers who oversee different aspects of the production.
We are looking for an experienced producer who will push the boundaries of traditional broadcasting. As an editorial leader for the LA28 Games, you will champion unconventional narratives, bold visual formats, and fresh ways to capture the human drama of the Olympics—actively seeking to expand our range and impact across all screens.
The Executive Producer is instrumental in assigning stories to be chased, monitoring development, creating a coverage plan for the Games, and contributing to the overall planning function of the Games. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor, direct, and develop programming talent, producers, on-air talent, and hosts, as well as take an active role in department-wide and CBC initiatives.
Function
Plans, conceives, organizes, and/or develops the production and realization of a program segment, program, or series. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards, and practices, and the Executive Producer is ultimately responsible for ensuring that this occurs. Nevertheless, there is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment, and creativity. There is a regular and ongoing requirement to co-ordinate the work of others.
Key Tasks
•
Conceives, develops, and champions ground-breaking program concepts that challenge conventional sports production. You will use your creative latitude to design distinctive, non-traditional formats that seamlessly bridge live television and digital platforms, turning complex technical setups into canvas elements for immersive, high-impact storytelling.
•
Review the style, pace, tempo, and format of the broadcast. Rather than relying on standard sports templates, you will bring a fresh aesthetic and creative choreography to live multi-sport events, tailoring content dynamically for different audiences and platforms.
•
Develops the program content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing, and/or editing; as required, commissions writing/research and prepares scripts.
•
Plans, organizes, and co-ordinates the program or its various components and segments.
•
Plans, selects, and requests, in collaboration with the Unit or Business Manager, the financial and production/resource requirements including creative contributors, participants, materials, and facilities. Responsible and accountable for exercising budget authority during program preparation, production, and post-production.
•
Exercises editorial responsibility as delegated by Management.
•
Evaluates all facets of a production, including the performance of program and production personnel and freelance contributors.
•
As required, performs the following tasks:
•
Directs talent, sound, and/or image.
•
Selects, re-writes, and/or edits copy or text written by others.
•
Ensures, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the program.
•
Determines the order and importance of various elements of a program.
•
Assigns, co-ordinates, and supervises the work of personnel who contribute to the program or segment for which the Producer is responsible.
•
Identifies, develops, and maintains contacts appropriate to the area of assignment.
•
Oversees internet site design and structure and organizes/co-ordinates on-line content.
•
Oversees the shooting, editing, encoding, digitizing, and packaging of digital audio and video for the internet.
•
Prepares programs for the internet, including coding, and manipulating images and graphics.
•
Edits and mixes, or directs the editing and mixing of audio and/or visual elements.
•
Assures the maintenance of a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience which is both feasible and appropriate to the style and nature of the program
.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
•
University degree or equivalent and ten years’ experience, of which five must involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry.
•
Significant experience producing live international multi-sports event programming.
•
Experience writing, editing, and conceptualizing the content and flow of distinctive programming.
•
Desirable experience in sports journalism; must demonstrate solid editorial knowledge of national and international sports news and issues.
•
Extensive knowledge of international professional and amateur sports (with special emphasis on Olympic sports).
•
Proven ability and experience working with a sales/revenue department developing programming to meet client needs, programming objectives, and financial goals.
•
Experience meeting and presenting programming concepts to clients, sponsors, and agencies.
•
Strong leadership skills to motivate a programming team, on-air talent, and hosts.
•
Ability to forward-plan while remaining topical and current.
•
Highly developed interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively and cooperatively (established relationships with Canadian Sports Federations are an asset).
•
A proven understanding of the CBC and the relationship between Sports, the network, and regional programming.
•
An understanding and appreciation of complex production and technical needs.
•
An innovator in digital storytelling. You possess a deep curiosity for emerging digital media trends and know how to leverage social, interactive, and on-line content to build creative, narrative-driven experiences that extend far beyond the linear television screen.
•
Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure and stressful environment.
•
Ability to travel as required and to work long and flexible hours.
