Job Description:
Salary: $50,000 per year
ASU TRIO Programs seeks a Coordinator for the Talent Search program. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Coordinator develops, implements, and oversees secondary and postsecondary academic advising components as well as coordinates the tutorial/lab components and workshops, conducts academic testing for all program participants, provides “College Planning” course instruction, monitors academic progress, prepares for and conducts “High School/College Success “parent/participant conferences, compiles and analyzes statistical data, and assists in various other related duties such as coordinating with and supporting other ASU TRIO programs which generate in providing participants with skills and the motivation necessary to enter and complete a program of secondary and postsecondary education. The ideal candidate must work well in a fast‐paced, flexible environment, provide a high level of customer service to both the university and external communities, and make strong contributions both as an individual and as a team player.
Days and Schedule: Position is IN-PERSON. Work location is primarily at the West campus; however, incumbent will be required to travel to off-campus events, assigned schools and other ASU campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle.
Work schedule will be flexible, depending on when programs are offered, to include nights and weekends as required. On days when programs are not offered, work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Desired Qualifications:
•
Experience with TRIO, educational equity organizations and/or similar college preparatory programs
•
Experience with youth from middle/junior high to high school (i.e., youth at least 11 years of age and older); grades 8th to 12th
•
Experience with populations particularly those from low-income family backgrounds and first-generation to attend postsecondary institutions
•
Demonstrated knowledge of post-secondary admission process and financial aid, such as FAFSA and scholarships
•
Evidence of a Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education or related field
•
Demonstrated knowledge of computer skills including use of MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Bookings), G Suite (e.g., Google Drive, Gmail, Hangouts, etc.), Canva, and ASU computer systems (e.g., Workday, Salesforce, Canvas, Zoom, Slack, etc.)Bilingual English/Spanish – speak, read, and write
•
Experience with completing assigned projects in a timely manner and working well under priority deadlines
Essential Duties:
•
Prepare for and implement the annual student recruitment cycle and orientation of program participants and parents.
•
Develop, implement, and oversee the high school academic advising component. (i.e., monitor high school progress of participants towards graduation and postsecondary admission requirements
•
Supervise supplemental instruction program
•
Develop and maintain working relationships with high schools and postsecondary institutions
•
Arrange and conduct academic progress meetings with participants and their instructors/counselors
•
Maintain academic files
•
Advise program staff on participants’ academic status and needs
•
Prepare data reports regarding academics.
•
Coordinate the tutorial/lab components; train, supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
•
Organize, coordinate and conduct pertinent academic testing for all program participants as required; gather, evaluate, analyze and report testing data.
•
Teach the program’s “College Planning” courses; prepare curriculum, assignments, classroom activities and materials including FAFSA and financial literacy components.
•
Plan, coordinate and execute enrichment activities that will foster and encourage personal (i.e., intellectual, cultural, and social) development as well as help solidify the participants’ desire/pursuit of a postsecondary education.
•
Prepare for and conduct “High School/College Success” parent/participant conferences as well as assist with the coordination of parent/participant workshops.
•
Direct and implement retention and tracking data-gathering activities pertaining to program past participants; compile statistical data and prepare data analysis reports.
•
Develop, implement, and oversee postsecondary academic advising and financial assistance components.
•
Assist the Program Director in preparing proposals and reports as required by the U.S. Department of Education, Arizona State University, and other organizations.
•
Present workshops for community, university, state and/or regional/national associations.
•
Serve on university committees and participate in local, state and regional/national professional organizations.
•
Research, develop, implement and assess programs
•
Develop budgets and monitor expenditures
•
Supervise students and/or staff
•
Develop and deliver presentations to groups
•
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
•
Position requires work on weekends and evenings. Altered weekly work schedule, minimum of 40 hours per week.
•
Special events including field trips may take place through the year requiring one to work all day.
​Working Environment:
•
Work is performed in an in-person office, school, classroom, and event environment, with the primary work location at ASU’s West campus.
•
Regular travel between ASU campuses, assigned schools, and off-campus event locations is required.
•
Work schedule may include evenings and weekends based on program activities and events. Occasional extended or all-day hours may be required for special events, including field trips.
•
Work involves extended periods of sitting and standing, as well as walking between buildings, classrooms, offices, and event locations.
•
Work involves extended periods of computer use, including viewing screens and using a keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment.
•
May be required to walk or work outdoors during varying weather conditions.
•
May occasionally be required to lift, carry, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.
Department Statement:
Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success. EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K-12 schools, orientation programs for new freshman, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students. EOSS has direct responsibility for multiple departments across four campuses, some of which include the Dean of Students, University Housing, Health Services, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, the Memorial Union, TRIO programs, Sun Devil Fitness, Student Government, Student Media, Career Services, Access ASU and others.
