Job Description
Scalable Capital is one of Europe’s leading digital banks, with more than one million clients and over €60 billion on the platform, growing across Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Milan and London. We are hiring a Senior Legal Counsel to own the legal side of our Italian branch, the newest and fastest growing part of the bank.
You lead legal matters in Italy: customer documentation, the legal work on new product launches, the relationship with Banca d’Italia and external counsel. You work directly with the Branch Managers and with the group legal team in Germany. You look at the problem, you decide what the right approach is, and you run it through to signature.
•
Own every legal document signed by customers in Italy: you draft it and you decide what goes in it
•
Lead new products end to end, from the regulatory analysis to the final client-facing wording
•
Act as a key contact in interactions with regulators and external institutions, including regulatory reports and requests from authorities
•
Draft, review and negotiate contracts with clients, partners and suppliers
•
Instruct and manage external legal advisors: you choose the firm, you set the approach, you judge the output
•
Own the process for complaints and contentious customer cases, including out-of-court resolution systems (ABF / ACF), inheritance, garnishment and insolvency cases
•
Support internal operational teams in setting up and running processes for the Italian market in line with local regulations
•
Advise on branch governance, policies and the correct implementation of relevant legislation (e.g. MiFID II, PSD II, CCD II, transparency and consumer protection requirements)
Qualifications
•
Holds a law degree
•
Over five years of experience, most of it in a top-tier Italian or international law firm with a strong focus on banking and financial regulation; in-house experience at a bank or a regulated fintech is equally welcome
•
Solid knowledge of Italian financial services regulation, with familiarity with European frameworks (e.g. MiFID II, PSD2, CCD II) considered a strong plus
•
Exceptional legal research and drafting skills, combined with the judgement to know when a two-line answer is the right one
•
Comfortable owning a decision rather than presenting options, and saying no to a business that moves fast
•
Proven ability to work independently, prioritize effectively across multiple workstreams, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
•
Full professional fluency in both Italian and English
Benefits
The salary range is between 77,000 EUR and 99,000 EUR. The final salary will be determined within this range based on your individual training, qualifications, and relevant professional experience.
