We’re hiring our first Assistant Controller to build and own the Accounting function at GrowthX. This is a 0-to-1 role: you’re not inheriting a mature org, you’re standing one up. You’ll take the accounting infrastructure we have today — an outsourced bookkeeping firm, Campfire as our GL, and a lot of tribal knowledge walking out the door with our outgoing accounting lead — and turn it into a function that scales with the business and holds up under audit.
You’ll report to the Head of Finance and own the integrity of our books end to end: close, reporting, AR/collections, AP oversight, revenue recognition, systems, and controls. We currently lean on an outsourced accounting firm for bookkeeping — that’s a stopgap, not the target state. Part of the job is to bring that work in-house and lower our dependence on outside help as the function matures, which means you should expect to be hands-on with the actual work, not just reviewing someone else’s. You’ll build the process, controls, and documentation so the next hire doesn’t have to reverse-engineer any of it from Slack threads.
GrowthX runs a hybrid model — subscription platform revenue alongside services revenue — so you’ll work with revenue recognition that isn’t a single, simple SaaS pattern. You’ll also inherit real, live problems on day one: aging AR, contract structures with opt-out windows, multi-state tax exposure, and systems that don’t yet talk to each other cleanly. We need someone who wants to fix that, not someone who needs it already fixed.
