About the role
Zoox is seeking a Diagnostics Engineer to drive Design for Serviceability (DFS) and ensure service readiness across our products. In this role, you will evaluate diagnostic and controller programming functions at the component, system, and vehicle levels to ensure they are intuitive and effective for Base Operations technicians. You will partner closely with Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Design, and Prototyping to advocate for serviceability and maintenance optimization. This role includes regular engagement with field technicians to assess real-world service challenges and translate that feedback into improved diagnostic strategies, tools, and workflows that support efficient vehicle maintenance and repair.
In this role, you will
•
Establish relationships with Manufacturing, Validation, and Product Development teams to drive diagnostics requirements for every electronic control module and I/O.
•
Collaboratively design, develop, and validate on-board and off-board diagnostic test tools for reporting diagnostic codes, alerts, and control functions.
•
Develop standardized technical requirements for controller programming tools and process flow.
•
Work closely with the Service Documentation team to develop diagnostic, programming, and repair procedures.
•
Support wiring system serviceability (bundle routing, connectors, terminals, retention clips, etc) and schematic development for ease of troubleshooting.
•
Participate in requirements definition as it pertains to service.
Qualifications
•
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Automotive Technology.
•
5+ years of relevant experience in vehicle diagnostics.
•
Proficiency with automotive diagnostic tools and/or equipment design experience.
•
Experience with vehicle communication networking protocols (CAN, LIN, etc.) and tools.
•
Ability to comprehend schematics, electrical diagrams, and connector end views/pinout.
•
Experience designing and developing products through the lifecycle and product and process validation.
Bonus Qualifications
•
Familiarity with service information, diagnostics, or authoring.
•
Practical technical or field diagnostic experience.
