(Level - II) Education and Experience requirements at this level include a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, crime and intelligence analysis, sociology, or a closely-related field of study; or an equivalent substitution of experience with a law enforcement agency or military law enforcement unit performing technical tasks (e.g., conducting research, reviewing information to identify and collect relevant information, creating reports, using computer systems and law enforcement databases to collect and analyze information specific to assigned task), plus two years of professional experience in conducting investigative case support or criminal intelligence analysis for a law enforcement agency.
( Level I) Education and Experience requirements at this level include a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, crime and intelligence analysis, sociology, or a closely-related field of study; or an equivalent substitution of experience with a law enforcement agency or military law enforcement unit performing technical tasks (e.g., conducting research, reviewing information to identify and collect relevant information, creating reports, using computer systems and law enforcement databases to collect and analyze information specific to assigned task).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of procedures and techniques of business communication; of spelling and punctuation; of computer programs and applications; of basic presentation skills; and of the tools and resources used to identify individuals, organizations, and other criminal enterprises.
Ability is required to collect and analyze data, recognize existing trends and emerging threats; and to organize and present findings clearly and concisely (both orally and in writing).
Pursuant to DPS’s Drug and Alcohol Policy, no member or other employee who is assigned safety-sensitive job duties may use, consume, or be under the influence of marijuana (including any form of marijuana consumed by virtue of 63 O.S. §§ 420 et seq. or a medical or recreational marijuana program in another state) at any time, whether on duty or off duty. This position qualifies as a safety-sensitive position.
Successful applicants must be willing to submit to a drug screen, polygraph examination, and a thorough background investigation. Certain events automatically disqualify an applicant, such as, felony conviction; admission of an undetected crime that, if known, would have been a felony charge; failure to pay federal or state income tax; positive confirmed drug urine test; illegal use of a controlled substance within certain time frames.
Any job offer will be conditioned on successfully completing this process as well as successfully qualifying for a minimum of a federal secret security clearance. Any applicant having used marijuana (including any synthetics, waxes or oils), anabolic steroids, or a pharmaceutical controlled dangerous substance not prescribed to them within one year of January 1 of the application year will be disqualified and removed from the application process. Any applicant disqualified by this provision may re-apply after sufficient passage of time with no further use of the above listed substances.
