Lead Endoscopy Technician

Summary
Lead and oversee contractor endoscopy technicians and support staff by coordinating schedules, training, quality control, clinical operations, and performance standards. Serve as a liaison between the Endoscopy Center and other healthcare departments while supporting efficient, safe, and high-quality endoscopy services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
•
Serve as Team Leader for contractor endoscopy technicians.
•
Assist in planning and establishing work schedules for Endoscopy Center and its assigned personnel, ensures that DMHRSi/ATAAPS is correct for section members, and ensures endoscopy procedures deadlines are met per mission of the clinic.
•
Ensure that the assigned personnel adhere to the performance standards for acceptable work based on American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and American Gastroenterological Association.
•
Develop training standards for new employees and trainees.
•
Ensure that Competency Assessment Folders are maintained for section personnel.
•
Update monthly all mandatory training per hospital policies and conduct in-service training on new procedures or new equipment for section personnel.
•
Clinically oversee and lead other contractor endoscopy technicians and support staff in the performance of their duties.
•
Provide training and quality control feedback to other technicians and rotating healthcare providers as needed.
•
Responsible for training incoming contractor endoscopy technicians with advanced scopes and other equipment and Electronic Health Record software (EndoVault, EndoScheduler, Genesis).
•
Manage teaching files with video for fellows and residents’ training and education.
•
Coordinate and communicate with other outpatient departments for special gastroenterology procedures and serve as liaison between inpatient services and Combined Endoscopy Center.
•
Assist with updating endoscope Standardized Operating Protocols on an annual basis.
•
Utilize performance improvement surveys to improve production or increase the quality of the work within the Endoscopy Center.
•
Monitor working conditions such as seating, ventilation, lighting, safety, etc., within the Combined Endoscopy Center.
•
Approve section member leave for a few hours or for emergencies. Inform employees of available services and employee activities.
•
Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others to supervisor.
•
Report to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and behavior problems.
•
Provide information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
•
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
•
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Serve as Team Leader for contractor endoscopy technicians.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
•
Must have an Associate’s degree.
•
Must have at least one (1) year of experience in gastroenterology services (endoscopy and colonoscopy) within the last two (2) years.
•
Must have an Active BLS Certification.
•
Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
Desired Qualifications & Skills
•
Previous experience leading or training endoscopy technicians or other healthcare personnel.
•
Strong knowledge of endoscopy procedures, equipment, and patient care practices.
•
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
•
Ability to coordinate schedules, prioritize tasks, and manage competing priorities.
•
Experience with quality assurance, performance improvement, and healthcare documentation.
•
A Certified Nursing Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician certification.
Work Schedule
Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project. Work on weekends/holidays may be required. The average work schedule will be 40 hours per week.
Work Environment
Work is performed in clinical, endoscopy, and surgical procedure areas. Employee may be exposed to medical equipment, bodily fluids, infectious materials, cleaning and disinfecting agents, and varying levels of noise. Position requires frequent interaction with patients, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel.
Physical Demands
Position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and use of hands for handling medical instruments and equipment. Employee may be required to lift, carry, push, and pull medical equipment and supplies and assist with positioning or transporting patients.
