About Career Compass
Career Compass is building a digital product that helps people make better-informed decisions about their careers.
We help people understand where they are today, explore possible directions, make sense of their skills and opportunities, and decide what to do next.
As part of the team, you will work alongside Product Managers, Engineers, Designers and Data to understand our users, shape the product and turn complex career information into experiences that are useful, understandable and actionable.
[What you will be working on]
Discover & Define
•
Understand users, their goals, behaviours, pain points and information needs.
•
Conduct appropriate user research.
•
Separate underlying problems from assumptions and proposed solutions.
•
Synthesise research and evidence into clear insights and opportunities.
•
Frame problems so multidisciplinary teams share an understanding of what we are solving and why.
Design & Validate
•
Turn user needs and product problems into clear, intuitive experiences.
•
Design journeys, information architecture, flows, interactions and interfaces.
•
Explore and prototype different approaches.
•
Conduct concept and usability testing with users.
•
Use qualitative and quantitative evidence to iterate and improve the product.
Collaborate & Influence
•
Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers from problem definition through implementation.
•
Facilitate discussions that help teams make progress and alignment.
•
Communicate design rationale, evidence and trade-offs clearly.
•
Advocate for users while navigating product, operational and technical constraints.
•
Stay involved during build and learn from shipped outcomes.
[What we are looking for]
•
Around 4–6 years of relevant professional experience in Product Design, UX Design, Interaction Design, Service Design, or a related discipline
•
Strong problem-framing and human-centred design skills.
•
Strong UX, interaction and visual design fundamentals.
•
Experience with user research, synthesis and usability testing.
•
Ability to understand end-to-end journeys and simplify complex information.
•
Experience prototyping, testing and iterating with users.
•
Ability to navigate ambiguity and make considered design trade-offs.
•
Strong facilitation and communication skills.
•
Ability to work effectively with Product Managers and Engineers.
•
Experience independently taking product experiences from discovery through implementation.
•
A portfolio demonstrating your design process, judgement, craft and contribution to shipped outcomes.
You Are Able To
•
Make sense of messy problems and turn ambiguity into clear problems and opportunities.
•
Understand users’ goals, behaviours, information needs and decision-making processes.
•
Zoom out to understand the wider journey and system, then zoom in to get important experience details right.
•
Turn research, data and insights into better product experiences.
•
Simplify complex information without losing important context.
•
Make ideas tangible through journeys, flows, wireframes and prototypes.
•
Test ideas early, learn from evidence and iterate.
•
Navigate trade-offs between user needs, product objectives and technical constraints.
•
Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers from discovery through delivery.
•
Independently own well-scoped product problems and outcomes.
Nice to Have
Experience with information-heavy products, recommendation or decision-support experiences, data visualisation, service design, product analytics and experimentation, design systems, AI-enabled products, or government and other complex domains.
You do not need to be an expert in careers or employment. You need to be curious, ask good questions and be able to learn quickly.
