About the role
Help people start strong at Interstates
A new team member’s first days shape how they experience a company, connect with their team, and approach the work ahead.
As the Lead Orientation Specialist, you’ll make those first days count. You’ll own and lead Interstates’ new hire orientation experience—from offer acceptance through initial training and transition into a team member’s assigned role. You’ll bring structure to a complex process, create a welcoming experience for every new team member, and make sure the details are handled so people feel prepared and confident from day one.
This role is a great fit for someone who loves planning, coordinating, facilitating, solving problems, and continuously improving the way work gets done.
Compensation, Location, and Travel
• Location: Sioux Center, IA, or Omaha, NE
• Work arrangement: Onsite
• Compensation: $65,000–$75,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications
• Bonus eligibility: Fiscal year incentives and merit increases
• Travel: Up to 15% across Interstates locations
What you’ll do:
Own the orientation experience
•
Lead Interstates’ enterprise orientation program for professional, craft, and manufacturing team members.
•
Coordinate the experience from offer acceptance through initial technical or craft training and transition into an assigned role.
•
Plan and manage schedules, presenters, instructors, facilities, technology, materials, communications, travel, and learning activities.
•
Facilitate orientation sessions and help new team members understand Interstates’ culture, values, safety expectations, and business operations.
•
Create a consistent experience while keeping each interaction personal and welcoming.
•
Monitor progress and proactively resolve issues that could affect the new team member experience.
•
Ensure smooth handoffs into assigned teams, field roles, or shop positions.
Be the person who keeps everything moving
•
You’ll serve as the central point of coordination for a wide range of partners, including: Recruiting, HR, Workforce Planning, Instructors, IT, Safety, Payroll, Hiring Leaders, and more.
•
You’ll bring people together, communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and influence outcomes even when you are not the person in charge of every function.
Make orientation better as we grow
Orientation will be your area of ownership—and you’ll continually look for ways to make it stronger.
•
Track completion, participant satisfaction, early retention, time to productivity, and stakeholder feedback.
•
Gather input from new team members, leaders, instructors, and business partners.
•
Develop reports, dashboards, and recommendations that show what is working and where we can improve.
•
Build scalable workflows, resources, and standard operating procedures.
•
Evaluate orientation technologies, systems, and processes and recommend improvements.
•
Balance efficiency and operational needs with a high-quality new team member experience.
Coordinate travel and logistics
•
Oversee travel, lodging, transportation, scheduling, and other orientation and training logistics.
•
Resolve scheduling conflicts and last-minute changes with calm, creativity, and attention to detail.
•
Make sure logistics are accurate, efficient, and service-focused.
Lead and support the orientation team
•
Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and direction for orientation support team members, as assigned. This role will have 1 direct report.

Establish priorities, assign work, and monitor progress.

What you bring:
•
One year of progressive experience in orientation, onboarding, learning and development, talent management, human resources, workforce development, program management, or a related area—or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
•
Strong project management, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
•
Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
•
Experience coordinating complex schedules, logistics, and operational workflows.
•
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
•
Ability to build relationships and influence outcomes without relying solely on formal authority.
•
A service-oriented mindset and genuine interest in helping people succeed.
