We operate in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment where we co-innovate with Cisco’s global Mobility Business Units (BU), Centers of Excellence (CoE), and tier-1 service providers to deliver ultra-reliable, high-capacity, and low-latency mobile platforms supporting millions of subscribers.
Your Impact
As a Customer Delivery Architect for Mobility & 5G, you will serve as the principal technical authority and trusted advisor leading the end-to-end architectural design, validation, and commercial deployment of Cisco’s 5G Standalone (SA) / Non-Standalone (NSA) Converged Core and Cloud-Native Network Functions (CNF).
You will bridge the gap between customer business objectives and technical delivery execution. You will own the high-level architecture (HLD), low-level parameters (LLD), end-to-end call flow design, and performance optimization for 5G Core network functions (UPF, SMF, AMF, PCF, NRF) across bare-metal and containerized Telco Cloud environments, ensuring flawless execution during live carrier cutovers and network migrations.
What You’ll Do
• 5G Core Architecture & Solution Design: Lead the architecture, design, and integration of Cisco 5G SA/NSA Core solutions, Converged Packet Core (vEPC / 5GC), and Control and User Plane Separation (CUPS) architectures for major Japanese telecommunications carriers.
• Cloud-Native & User Plane Engineering: Architect high-throughput, low-latency 5G User Plane Functions (UPF) and Service-Based Architecture (SBA) control planes running on modern container platforms (Kubernetes / OpenStack / Bare-metal Telco Cloud).
• End-to-End Call Flow & Protocol Design: Define detailed signaling call flows, session management, policy control, charging (CHF/Diameter), subscriber data management, and network slicing across 3GPP (Rel 15/16/17) standards.
• PDI Delivery & Cutover Governance: Act as the lead delivery architect across the full project lifecycle (Plan, Design, Implement)-directing lab staging, PoC benchmarks, migration strategies, operational runbooks, and real-time risk decision-making during high-stakes maintenance windows.
• Strategic Advisory & Trusted Partnership: Partner closely with telco engineering directors, CTO office stakeholders, Cisco Account Teams (AM/CSM), and specialist SEs to shape multi-year technology roadmaps and drive architectural evolution.
• Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Guide and mentor senior consulting engineers, drive delivery quality control, and collaborate with global development teams (Mobility BU / TAC) to resolve critical software and protocol roadblocks.
Who You’ll Work With
You will collaborate with a passionate, multidisciplinary team of mobile core specialists, cloud-native architects, and project leaders within Cisco CX Japan. You will work closely with Account Executives, Solution Architects, global CoE delivery centers, and the Cisco Mobility BU, while interfacing directly with executive technical leaders at Japan’s top telecommunications operators.
Who You Are
You are a distinguished mobile packet core architect with extensive experience designing and deploying large-scale carrier mobile networks. You combine deep 3GPP protocol mastery with modern cloud-native virtualization acumen and exceptional client leadership skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 8+ years of hands-on technical experience in Service Provider mobile packet core architecture, engineering design, or delivery (4G LTE EPC, 5G NSA/SA Core).
• Deep technical mastery of 3GPP mobile core protocols and interfaces: 5G SBA (HTTP/2, REST APIs, JSON), PFCP (N4/Sx), GTP-C/GTP-U, Diameter, RADIUS, and BGP/MPLS routing.
• Proven track record architecting or deploying core network functions: UPF, SMF, AMF, NRF, PCF, MME, SGW, PGW, and ePDG/N3IWF.
• Hands-on experience with Telco Cloud and virtualization platforms hosting VNFs/CNFs (Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack, KVM, SR-IOV, DPDK/CNDP).
• Experience leading mission-critical network cutovers, major software migrations, and performance benchmarking for tier-1 telecommunications carriers.
• Native or business-level fluency in Japanese (client executive presentations, SOW scoping, and technical documentation) with professional working proficiency in English (collaborating with global BUs and international delivery teams).
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Cisco Mobility platforms (e.g., Cisco Ultra Cloud Core / Cloud Native 5G Core, Cisco StarOS / ASR 5500, Cisco UCS).
• In-depth understanding of 5G Network Slicing, Private 5G, MEC (Multi-Access Edge Computing), and IMS/VoNR architecture.
• Industry certifications such as CCIE (Service Provider / Enterprise Infrastructure), CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator), or equivalent.
• Scripting and automation capabilities using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or Linux shell tools for automated testing and CI/CD validation.
