The Post Doctoral Scholar will pursue advanced research training within the Department of Neuroscience, with a focus on developing neuromodulation strategies to promote respiratory motor recovery following spinal cord injury (SCI). The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative research under the guidance of the principal investigator to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying spinal stimulation-induced changes in motor function and plasticity, with particular emphasis on non-invasive spinal stimulation and respiratory motor circuits. The researcher will independently design and conduct experiments using preclinical models of SCI; develop, optimize, and troubleshoot experimental techniques and protocols related to spinal stimulation, electrophysiology, respiratory physiology, and neurobehavioral assessment; collect, analyze, interpret, and present experimental data; and contribute to the development of new approaches for evaluating neural circuit function and therapeutic efficacy. The researcher will participate in the preparation of manuscripts, abstracts, reports, and grant applications; present research findings at local, national, and international scientific conferences, workshops, and seminars; collaborate with investigators across neuroscience, rehabilitation, engineering, and related disciplines; train laboratory personnel in specialized research techniques; and contribute to the supervision and mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students. The position will provide opportunities to develop an independent research program at the intersection of spinal cord injury, neural plasticity, respiratory motor control, and translational neuromodulation.
