Industry-Specific Knowledge
It is desirable for Staff Backend Engineers to have hands-on experience or practical familiarity with one or more core financial domains such as lending, payments, credit cards, open finance, fraud prevention, merchant acquiring, or investment services. A strong understanding of key operational workflows, integration patterns, and data flows within these domains is highly valued, especially in contexts where backend decisions impact performance, compliance, or financial accuracy at scale.
Ideal candidates will have led or significantly contributed to the architecture and development of backend systems powering critical financial use cases, such as real-time transaction processing, loan management engines, payment orchestration layers, settlement and reconciliation services, or KYC/AML-compliant onboarding pipelines. Experience designing secure, auditable, and scalable APIs for internal and external consumers is also highly desirable. The ability to translate complex regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR, LGPD) into resilient, compliant, and high-performing backend architectures sets exceptional candidates apart at this level.
