A Day in the Life
Medtronic is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer – Software Validation & Test Automation to join the Affera Manufacturing Engineering team. This role is critical in advancing manufacturing test automation, software validation, hardware integration, and quality assurance activities for next-generation electrophysiology products.
You will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, and R&D teams to develop and maintain automated test solutions, validate manufacturing software applications, and support production test systems that ensure product quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance within a highly regulated medical device environment.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
•
Develop and maintain Qt-based GUI applications and supporting utilities used in manufacturing and test environments.
•
Design, implement, and execute automated validation and test frameworks to improve manufacturing test efficiency and repeatability.
•
Develop and maintain software verification and validation protocols, test cases, and execution reports.
•
Support Windows desktop application testing, troubleshooting, and defect resolution activities.
•
Work with computer vision systems, tracking algorithms, and coordinate transformation techniques to support manufacturing automation and calibration workflows.
•
Integrate software applications with Data Acquisition Systems (DAQ), sensors, hardware controllers, and manufacturing equipment.
•
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement automated manufacturing test solutions.
•
Support hardware-software integration activities and validation of manufacturing test systems.
•
Document verification, validation, traceability, and compliance evidence required for regulated product development.
•
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve manufacturing throughput, test coverage, and product quality.
•
Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions related to manufacturing software and automated test systems.
•
Ensure compliance with medical device quality systems and regulatory requirements.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
•
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science,
•
Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
•
5–12 years of experience in software development, validation, automation, or manufacturing engineering within a regulated industry.
•
Familiarity with regulated product development processes and quality management systems.
•
Knowledge of scripting languages (Python) for automation and test utilities.
•
Experience with Qt-based GUI applications and Windows desktop application development and testing.
•
Knowledge of data acquisition systems (DAQ), hardware interfaces, and system integration.
•
Experience in medical device software validation, verification activities, and documentation within a regulated environment.
Good to Have
•
Experience with test fixtures, custom hardware setups, and automated test benches.
•
Experience supporting manufacturing test systems and production automation.
•
Familiarity with medical device standards such as IEC 62304 and related verification practices.
•
Experience with defect tracking, requirements management, and traceability tools.
•
Experience with CI/CD and automated software validation pipelines.
•
Understanding Computer Vision, object tracking concepts, coordinate conversion, and mathematical algorithms.
