About the role
Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Underwriter in our Accident & Health team in our office based in Barcelona.
This role will work closely with the Head of A&H for Iberia and the rest of the team and will focus on supporting the continued development of our client and broker relationships, contributing to the profitable growth of the portfolio, and helping to achieve underwriting targets in line with our local, regional, and global strategies.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional at an early stage of their career who is looking to develop strong technical foundations while gaining valuable market exposure in an international environment.

Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing:
• Support the underwriting and management of a portfolio of A&H business, including analysing underwriting information and assisting in the preparation of offers with appropriate terms and conditions in line with expected profitability.
• Review and assess submissions to support new business and renewal opportunities.
• Contribute to the growth and profitability of Sompo’s A&H portfolio by supporting broker development activities and helping identify opportunities in the market.
• Analyse underwriting information and ensure appropriate terms and conditions are considered in line with the Sompo A&H Underwriting Strategy.
• Support meetings and interactions with clients and brokers to help build relationships and contribute to the development of new and renewal business.
• Assist in maintaining a balanced and well-diversified book in terms of risk profile and segmentation.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders across underwriting, operations, claims, legal, compliance, and other relevant functions.
• Contribute to marketing and business development efforts by helping deliver high quality and client-focused solutions that enhance Sompo’s reputation and market presence.
• Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and ensure timely follow-up on internal systems and processes.
• Continue developing underwriting, technical, and commercial knowledge through day-to-day practice, collaboration and coaching.
Requirements
What you’ll bring:
• 1-3 years of experience in underwriting, insurance or related role.
• Strong interest in developing a career in Accident & Health underwriting.
• Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the highest levels of integrity.
• A positive, proactive, and collaborative mindset, with a willingness to learn and develop.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to build effective relationships internally and externally.
• Ability to manage priorities, work in a structured way, and deliver to deadlines.
• Language skills: Spanish; English.
