Job Description
Title : Inventory Accounting, Senior Manager
Location: Hyderabad, India
Position Summary :
The Senior Manager leads the AIIC Inventory Accounting team and is accountable for the timely, accurate, and well-controlled execution of inventory accounting activities supporting the financial close and external reporting processes. The role oversees journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory analyses, internal controls, audit support, process documentation, and issue resolution.
As a senior leader within AIIC Controllership team, the Senior Manager partners with U.S. Inventory Accounting leadership and cross-functional teams, including Asset Protection, Supply Chain, Merchandising, Finance, Audit, and Technology. The role may also support other AIIC accounting processes, provide leadership coverage within Controllership, and help transition additional accounting activities from the United States to India.
Key Responsibilities
•
Lead and develop the AIIC Inventory Accounting team, establish clear priorities, and ensure high-quality, timely delivery.
•
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory analyses, and management reporting.
•
Review inventory balances, valuation, shrink, reserves, obsolescence, and related accounting matters; investigate and resolve significant variances and reconciling items.
•
Ensure inventory accounting complies with U.S. GAAP, company policies, and established close and documentation standards.
•
Partner with U.S. Inventory Accounting leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve accounting, data, process, and control issues.
•
Support the design, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of financial and operational controls.
•
Lead targeted risk and control assessments and recommend practical control enhancements across business, financial, and technology processes.
•
Maintain SOX documentation, including process narratives, flowcharts, risk and control matrices, testing support, and control evidence.
•
Coordinate internal and external audit requests and ensure complete, accurate, and timely responses.
•
Develop and maintain accounting policies, standard operating procedures, process flows, and supporting documentation.
•
Lead process improvement and automation initiatives that improve accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and transparency.
•
Design and monitor key reports and performance measures used to execute controls and manage accounting processes.
•
Lead knowledge transfer, training, and process transitions between U.S. and India teams.
•
Provide clear updates on risks, issues, projects, and results to Controllership and business leadership.
•
Demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, and accountability in all activities.
Qualifications
•
Demonstrated experience leading and developing accounting professionals.
•
Experience managing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.
•
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and internal controls.
•
Experience with inventory accounting matters such as valuation, shrink, obsolescence, reserves, standard costing, landed cost, or related areas.
•
Experience supporting SOX compliance and internal or external audits.
•
Experience in a public company, shared service center, global capability center, multinational organization, or similarly matrixed environment.
•
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills.
•
Excellent written and verbal English communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.
•
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver accurate results within deadlines.
•
High level of initiative, professional judgment, ethics, and integrity.
•
Professional accounting qualification, such as Chartered Accountant, Certified Public Accountant, or Cost and Management Accountant, preferred.
•
Experience with Oracle, BlackLine, and AS400 preferred.
•
Retail, distribution, consumer products, automotive aftermarket, or other high-volume inventory experience preferred.
Education and Experience
•
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
•
At least eight years of progressive accounting, controllership, or financial reporting experience.
•
Meaningful experience in inventory accounting, cost accounting, general accounting, or a related operational accounting function.
