What you will be accountable for
1. Team leadership and operating model
•
Lead and develop the Salesforce team, setting clear priorities, standards and expectations while creating an environment of ownership, learning and constructive challenge.
•
Act as the senior escalation point, providing calm, evidence-led direction during incidents, complex delivery decisions and stakeholder conflicts.
•
Shape the team operating model, including capacity planning, work allocation, skills development, recruitment support and the effective use of specialist partners.
•
Build sustainable capability, through coaching, documentation, peer review and reducing dependency on individual team members or external suppliers.
2. Salesforce platform ownership
•
Own the health and evolution of Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and Experience Cloud, ensuring the platform supports commercial, customer-service and operational processes effectively.
•
Set and enforce platform standards, covering configuration, automation, data models, naming conventions, documentation, testing and technical debt.
•
Remain hands-on where needed, including complex Flow automation, permissions, validation rules, objects, page layouts, Lightning pages, reports, dashboards, analytics and troubleshooting.
•
Own day-to-day system administration, including user administration, joiner/mover/leaver processing, delegated administration and routine platform hygiene.
•
Configure and maintain Experience Cloud portals, including external sharing rules, guest user access, community settings, and partner- or customer-facing experiences.
•
Maintain a clear platform roadmap that balances strategic improvements, regulatory or security obligations, operational resilience, and business demand.
•
Control platform lifecycle changes, including Salesforce seasonal releases, feature adoption, deprecations, sandbox strategy and environment management.
•
Evaluate and deploy AppExchange packages, assessing them against business requirements, security review status, licence cost, support model and long-term maintainability.
3. Integrations, APIs and operational monitoring
•
Own the operational oversight of Salesforce integrations, including interfaces with Slack and other core enterprise applications.
•
Administer and maintain key business integrations.
•
Establish effective Slack API monitoring to cover authentication failures, token or certificate expirations, API errors, rate limits, latency, message delivery failures, and unexpected usage patterns.
•
Define monitoring and alerting standards, with meaningful thresholds, named owners, support runbooks, escalation paths and service-level expectations.
•
Protect integration reliability by overseeing connected apps, OAuth scopes, named credentials, integration users, event-driven services and API consumption.
•
Lead incident response and problem management, ensuring root causes are understood, corrective actions are completed and recurring failures are designed out.
4. Security, access and control posture
•
Own the Salesforce security posture, working with Security, IT and Risk teams to maintain proportionate, auditable controls.
•
Design and maintain the org-wide sharing and security architecture, including organisation-wide defaults (OWD), role hierarchy, sharing rules, permission sets and permission-set groups, and field-level security.
•
Apply least-privilege access, with appropriate segregation of duties and regular remediation of accumulated or excessive entitlements.
•
Govern identities and privileged access, including SSO and MFA (working knowledge of Okta or a comparable identity provider), service accounts, integration users, delegated administration and joiner/mover/leaver controls.
•
Lead regular security audits and access reviews to evidence least-privilege compliance and drive timely remediation of findings.
•
Partner with IT and Security on platform audits and compliance, including SOC 2 and GDPR obligations, control evidence and audit response.
•
Review platform risk signals, such as login anomalies, API usage, configuration changes, installed packages and connected-app behaviour, using the monitoring capabilities available in the Salesforce estate.
•
Protect sensitive information through sound data-access design, retention controls, masking or anonymisation in non-production environments, and responsible vendor access.
5. Licensing, certificates and lifecycle management
•
Optimise licence usage and forecasting across Sales Cloud, Service Cloud and Experience Cloud, including reharvesting, right-sizing and renewal input.
•
Monitor and manage certificate lifecycles, including SSL and SAML signing certificates, to prevent avoidable authentication or integration outages.
•
Manage connected app and OAuth lifecycles, with a maintained inventory, named owners, expiry tracking and proactive renewal ahead of failure.
•
Provide clear cost and entitlement visibility, so licence, package and integration spend is understood, challenged and aligned to realised value.
6. Delivery, release and DevOps
•
Own a transparent and prioritised delivery backlog, working with business stakeholders to clarify outcomes, value, dependencies and acceptance criteria.
•
Maintain disciplined release management, with source control, peer review, automated or repeatable deployment, regression testing, rollback planning and release communications.
•
Execute version-controlled releases through GitHub, using branch strategy, pull requests, peer approval and traceable change history as the standard route to production.
•
Maintain documentation for all configuration and change management, so the estate remains understandable, auditable and supportable by more than one person.
•
Improve platform support, using clear service measures, triage processes, knowledge articles, problem records and trend analysis.
•
Manage technical debt deliberately, making risks and trade-offs visible and ensuring remediation is planned alongside new demand.
•
Partner effectively with vendors, holding delivery partners to clear outcomes, quality standards, documentation and knowledge-transfer commitments.
7. Data quality and platform insight
•
Champion trustworthy Salesforce data, including ownership, validation, duplicate management, integration reconciliation and remediation of recurring data-quality issues.
•
Provide actionable platform insight, using dashboards and regular reporting on adoption, automation failures, API consumption, incidents, release quality, access risk and technical debt.
•
Support sound architecture decisions, challenging unnecessary customisation and promoting maintainable, scalable use of standard Salesforce capabilities and enterprise-level data modelling.
8. AI, Agentforce and emerging capabilities
•
Help evaluate and safely adopt Agentforce, Salesforce AI capabilities and adjacent enterprise AI tools where they can improve employee or customer outcomes.
•
Support responsible AI governance, including data access, grounding, human oversight, prompt and agent testing, monitoring, auditability and change control.
•
Contribute practical experience with Claude or comparable models, especially where AI services interact with Salesforce, Slack, knowledge content, workflows or customer data.
•
Separate experimentation from production readiness, ensuring AI-enabled solutions meet the same security, reliability and support standards as other business-critical capabilities.
•
Service-minded ownership: you treat Salesforce as a critical business service, not simply a collection of projects.
•
Wise pragmatism: you balance speed, usability, maintainability, cost and risk rather than optimising for only one dimension.
•
Constructive challenge: you can say no, or not yet, with clear evidence and a practical route forward.
•
Calm accountability: you take ownership when problems arise without creating blame or hiding uncomfortable facts.
•
Enabling leadership: you give people clarity and support while building their confidence, judgement and independence.
•
Clear communication: you make technical issues understandable and keep stakeholders informed before uncertainty becomes surprise.
