HAVC 1Q98 Introduction to Visual Culture
Overview of visual culture, its vocabulary, technologies and structures within varied cultural contexts. Problems of meaning, functions of visual culture in contemporary society, the role of galleries and museums, and the impact of imagery in advertising, popular media and consumer culture. Contemporary critical methodology. Lectures, seminar, 3 hours week. Note: TA contract for this course will be 60 hours.

A fully online synchronous course is a conferencing learning environment that is delivered remotely through audio and video conferencing to provide simultaneous communications (i.e., at the same time) between an instructor at one site and students at other sites. A course is considered to be offered via synchronous conferencing if 80% or more of the content is delivered in this way. As such, a synchronous conferencing course may have occasional face-to-face meetings, a proctored exam, etc., with the remainder of the content delivered through audio and video conferencing.
