Job Description
Purpose of the role
To manage operations within a business area and maintain processes, risk management initiatives and compliance with relevant regulators.
Accountabilities
•
Identification of trends and opportunities to improve areas and develop new process and procedures through the monitoring and analysis of operation data and performance metrices.
•
Management of operations for a business area and promote efficient processes, risk management and compliance initiatives to support the bank’s operations.
•
Collaboration with internal stakeholders (including business leaders, project manager and SMEs) and external stakeholders (including vendors and service providers) to support business operations and promote alignment with the bank’s objectives and SLAs.
•
Management of operational professionals and provide guidance, coaching and support to improve colleagues’ delivery quality.
•
Management and development of KPIs to measure the effectiveness of operation functions, utilising data and technology to support the identification of areas that require improvement.
•
Compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to customer experience.
•
Creation of a safe environment for colleagues to speak up, actively and regularly encourage and solicit feedback to ensure people agenda remains focused on the right areas.
•
Management of attrition by working closely with HR in implementing retention initiatives for work force.

Overall purpose of role
The Director, Head of Post Settlement and Internal Cash & Derivatives Settlements will perform a critical leadership role within Global Markets Operations, with end-to-end accountability for the global execution, governance, transformation and performance of Post Settlement and Internal Settlement activities across FX, Rates, Credit, Equity Derivatives, Commodities and Treasury products.
The successful candidate will set and execute the strategic direction for the function, ensuring safe, timely and accurate settlement, operational resilience, effective risk management, regulatory compliance and consistently strong outcomes for clients, businesses and internal stakeholders.
The role will lead a global organisation across multiple locations and time zones, working in partnership with Front Office, Treasury, Finance, Risk, Compliance, Technology and Change teams to simplify the operating environment, modernise settlement platforms, expand automation and deliver a scalable target operating model.
The Director will act as the senior management escalation point for significant operational events, market disruption, client-impacting issues, regulatory priorities and strategic transformation programmes affecting Post Settlement and Internal Cash & Derivatives Settlements.
Key Accountabilities:
Post Settlement & Transformation - Cash and Derivatives Settlements
•
Provide strategic leadership and direction for the global Post Settlement and Internal Cash & Derivatives Settlements organisation across all operating locations.
•
Maintain end-to-end accountability for settlement execution, service delivery, operational resilience, risk outcomes and organisational effectiveness.
•
Ensure timely and accurate settlement of obligations across FX, Rates, Credit, Equity Derivatives, Commodities and Treasury products within applicable market, regulatory and contractual timelines.
•
Lead the management of post-settlement exceptions, cash and nostro reconciliation, failed settlements, breaks, claims, investigations and internal settlement flows, ensuring clear ownership and timely resolution.
•
Drive a consistent global operating model while retaining the regional market expertise required to manage local infrastructure, cut-offs, regulations and client requirements.
•
Ensure operational readiness and resilience during periods of market volatility, volume spikes, technology disruption, regulatory change and business growth.
•
Act as the senior escalation point for significant operational incidents, market events, aged or material breaks and high-priority client or business issues.
•
Oversee capacity, demand and resource management across the function, directing skills and resources to areas of greatest service, risk or transformation priority.
Platform Migration, Transformation & Automation
•
Define and execute the multi-year strategic roadmap for settlement platform modernisation, process transformation and operating model simplification across Cash and Derivatives Operations.
•
Act as Executive Sponsor and accountable Operations owner for major platform migration programmes, from initial strategy and business case through design, testing, implementation, stabilisation and controlled transition into business-as-usual operations.
•
Lead migration governance covering scope, milestones, dependencies, operational risk, business readiness, data and position integrity, controls, cutover, contingency planning, colleague readiness and post-implementation support.
•
Ensure migration plans protect settlement timeliness, client service, liquidity management, operational resilience and regulatory compliance throughout implementation and cutover.
•
Partner with Technology, Architecture, Product, Change Delivery and Business teams to define target-state capabilities and ensure operational requirements are embedded in strategic platform design.
•
Lead the transition from legacy infrastructure to strategic target-state platforms, including the controlled decommissioning of redundant applications, processes and end-user solutions.
•
Drive process harmonisation and standardisation across products, regions and teams to reduce complexity and enable scalable platform adoption.
•
Own the settlement automation agenda, prioritising opportunities based on control improvement, risk reduction, client impact, operational resilience, productivity and strategic alignment.
•
Drive adoption of workflow digitisation, straight-through processing, automated exception management, robotics, intelligent automation and data-led solutions across the settlement lifecycle.
•
Ensure automation solutions are supported by clear ownership, robust controls, appropriate testing, change governance, documentation, monitoring and sustainable support arrangements.
•
Promote the use of advanced analytics and emerging technology to identify settlement trends, predict operational demand, reduce manual intervention and support better decision-making.
•
Create a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in which colleagues challenge legacy processes, identify automation opportunities and contribute to the future-state operating model.
•
Provide transparent updates to senior governance forums on migration progress, delivery risks, decisions, dependencies, operational readiness and realisation of agreed outcomes.
