The Storage as a Service (STaaS) team builds Docusign’s internal platform to enable product teams to use storage without managing cloud-provider implementation details. Docusign is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for the platform, with deep ownership of Redis/Valkey and messaging capabilities. In this role, you will lead architecture and implementation across the STaaS control, data, and management planes. You will build cloud-agnostic abstractions backed by services like Azure Managed Redis and Google Pub/Sub using consistent APIs, sidecars, and gateways. Additionally, you will partner with teams to set technical direction, mentor engineers, and balance developer experience with performance, security, and cost. This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering. Responsibility Lead the architecture, technical strategy, and delivery of STaaS capabilities, with primary ownership of Redis/Valkey and queuing or messaging services Design and implement high-throughput, low-latency Redis/Valkey platform services for caching, persistent key/value workloads, distributed coordination, and other internal use cases Design reliable queuing and messaging abstractions that support appropriate delivery guarantees, ordering, retries, dead-letter queues, replay, backpressure, and idempotent consumers Build and evolve the STaaS control plane for logical resource provisioning, lifecycle management, policy enforcement, quotas, and consistent blueprints across cloud providers Develop and maintain Terraform providers, modules, service blueprints, and provisioning workflows for Redis, queuing, and related STaaS resources Integrate Redis and queuing capabilities with the broader STaaS platform’s security, account, tenancy, telemetry, and operational-management models Establish secure patterns for authentication, authorization, network isolation, encryption, secrets management, and tenant or account-level boundaries Design and implement autoscaling, capacity management, sharding, failover, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies for stateful and messaging workloads Define and improve operational standards for metrics, tracing, logging, alerting, dashboards, capacity planning, and service-level objectives Lead migration strategies that enable existing Redis, Valkey, Service Bus, and Pub/Sub resources to adopt STaaS capabilities with minimal disruption Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, incident reviews, and hands-on technical guidance Participate in on-call rotations, lead or contribute to incident response, and drive corrective actions that improve STaaS reliability
