About the role
The Platform Tools team, part of Linux Engineering, is looking for a highly motivated student who can join us in the Brno office and who wants to gain hands-on experience with open source and Red Hat products. In this role, you will work on maintenance of the Python language and its ecosystem, and the GNU Debugger (GDB) project. This long-term internship will give you the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced teams, and contribute to projects that are the backbone of Linux.

Red Hat’s Intern Program is a collaborative effort between the Emerging Talent team and our intern managers. The program is designed to offer a meaningful and well-rounded experience — combining professional development, networking opportunities, social engagement, and impactful work. This is a paid, part-time internship based in the Brno office, with flexible working hours. The expected start date is February 2027.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
•
Contribute to the Python ecosystem in the Fedora Linux operating system, create a new Python package for Fedora, help with updating existing packages and releasing new versions, and work with the Fedora infrastructure
•
Based on your interest you will: contribute to upstream Python projects, work with the upstream community, solve integration issues between Python packages and Linux, learn about Python testing frameworks, etc.
•
Contribute to the GDB project upstream through developing code in Python and/or C/C++, investigating and fixing issues, and working on new features
•
Use AI agents in your workflows and contribute to the team’s AI efforts
•
Work with experienced open source teams in a welcoming environment
Requirements
What you will bring:
•
You must be enrolled in an accredited university program in the Czech Republic during the full duration of the internship and must be able to join us part-time from February 2027 till January 2028
•
Working knowledge of written and spoken English
•
Programming languages: experience in development in Python and basic experience with programming in C/C++
•
User experience with the Linux operating system and the git version control system
•
Interest in learning new technologies; problem-solving skills, sense of accountability
Nice to have
The following are considered a plus:
•
A basic knowledge of agentic AI
•
Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub
