Sr. Project Manager, Hydrogen Systems
Status: Exempt (salaried)

Position Summary
The Sr. Project Manager, Hydrogen Systems is responsible to lead Plug Power’s engineering, construction and commissioning projects for hydrogen projects at customer locations. The person on the position is responsible for the project success, customer, stakeholder, margin, schedule cost and quality management. Depending on the project, the equipment scope can consist of: compression units, low- and high-pressure storage tanks, dispensers, electrolyzes. The projects range from equipment delivery to full turnkey scope. This Sr. Project Manager will work with the internal Plug Power project team, product management, internal engineering, engineering service providers, permitting agencies, equipment suppliers, installation contractors, commissioning team, the service team and the end-customer to ensure a smooth transition during hydrogen system deployments. He can also be involved by the sales and technical sales team to provide specific expertise to offers and review contracts in the sales phase. The Senior Project manager will act as a coach and role model to the other Project Managers. He will support the Director of H2 Projects to create and implement the project management processes and tools for efficient project control and execution and reports to him.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
•
Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of Plug Power products and related hydrogen infrastructure system designs and functionality.
•
Work as subject matter expert to manage all facets of hydrogen system projects at customer sites.
•
Set up and manage project execution plans, project schedules and cost control and risk management.
•
Coordinate the activities of all parties involved with hydrogen system deployments including: Internal engineering, external engineering service providers, EPCms, permitting agencies, installation contractors, commissioning team and after sales service team.
•
Collaborate with internal project teams as necessary for hydrogen deployments; be proactive in alignment of efforts to achieve project timelines.
•
Provide guidance and technical expertise on project sites as required; set expectations for suppliers and contractors in alignment with Plug Power standards.
•
Create deep customer intimacy, to understand customer needs and expectations
•
Manage project schedules, project risks, and resolve problems as necessary to deliver on end-customer expectations.
•
Serve as a mentor and advisor to the team, guiding and directing activities of fellow Project Managers as needed
•
Train new team members, acting as advisor and resource
•
Communicate regularly with internal project team members and end-customers in order to clarify project expectations and meet commitments.
•
Always Represent Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interactions.
•
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
•
Bachelor or Master’s degree in engineering: mechanical, electrical, process industry or other applicable field of study.
•
PMP (Project Management Professional) or IPMA (International Project management Association) certification highly preferred.
•
A minimum of ten (10) years working experience in project-based engineering functions.
•
The ideal candidate possesses a background in plant project management in the hydrogen, chemical industry or gas sector (Basic Engineering/FEED, Detailed engineering, Procurement, Production, Construction, Installation, Commissioning)
•
Experience in any of the following spheres of activity is preferred and highly valued:
•
Hydrogen and/or fuel cells
•
Cryogenic Industry
•
High Pressure Systems (250 Bar and up)
•
Gas processing and/or dispensing equipment
•
Oil and Gas, CNG, LNG, etc…
•
Logistics/Material Handling
•
Knowledgeable with the permitting process for plants and installations in the country of job location and ideally have experience with it.
•
The candidate must be familiar with local Pressure and Machinery directives, the associated Certification process and underlying documentation requirements.
•
Ability to travel frequently in Australia. to customer sites for infrastructure project management activities; up to 80% of the time.
•
Proven track record in project management; delivering quality results on-time and on budget
•
Adept at mitigating project roadblocks and developing solutions to keep projects on schedule and within committed specifications.
•
The candidate must be able to work in a fast paced environment,
•
A strong entrepreneurial attitude with a high degree of autonomy and self-organization is mandatory.
•
Computer and software skills: MS Office, MS Project or similar Project mgmt. tool
•
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•
Dynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
•

•
Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.
•
