About the role
We are seeking an exceptional Senior Director, Regional Ecosystem Lead to serve as CSL’s senior representative within one of the world’s leading biotechnology innovation hubs. This highly visible role offers a unique opportunity to influence CSL’s future pipeline by connecting groundbreaking science, entrepreneurial innovation, and strategic business partnerships.
Working at the forefront of external innovation, you will help identify transformative opportunities, shape CSL’s presence across the biotech ecosystem, and position the company as the partner of choice for researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and emerging biotechnology companies.
This is more than a business development role. It is an opportunity to help bring the next generation of therapies to patients around the world.
What You’ll Do
As CSL’s senior leader within the regional innovation ecosystem, you will:
Build CSL’s Presence and Influence
•
Act as the face of CSL across the local biotechnology, academic, venture capital, and innovation community.
•
Elevate CSL’s reputation as a trusted partner, collaborator, and investor in breakthrough science.
•
Develop new partnership opportunities that strengthen CSL’s strategic presence and innovation pipeline.
Discover the Next Breakthrough
•
Identify and source high-value external innovation opportunities aligned with CSL’s therapeutic area strategies and long-term portfolio priorities.
•
Monitor emerging scientific advancements, disruptive technologies, and evolving industry trends.
•
Provide critical market intelligence on competitive activity, innovation hotspots, and ecosystem developments.
Create Meaningful Partnerships
•
Build and maintain executive-level relationships across leading universities, research institutes, incubators, accelerators, venture capital firms, and biotechnology companies.
•
Connect external innovators with CSL’s scientific experts, business leaders, and decision makers.
•
Represent CSL at major scientific, investment, and industry events, ensuring strong visibility and engagement.
Lead Strategic Transactions
•
Play a senior leadership role on regional business development and licensing opportunities.
•
Support transactions from early opportunity identification through evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, and close.
•
Partner closely with R&D, Business Development, Legal, and Therapeutic Area leaders to assess and advance opportunities.
Influence the Broader Industry
•
Pursue leadership positions on industry boards, advisory committees, and professional associations.
•
Represent CSL’s perspective in shaping the future direction of the biotechnology sector.
•
Foster strong connections across government, industry, academic, and investment communities.
What You’ll Bring
Experience
•
12+ years of experience within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, business development, external innovation, venture investing, or related fields.
•
Strong track record of building strategic partnerships and generating high-value deal flow.
•
Demonstrated success identifying, evaluating, and executing external innovation opportunities.
•
Deep understanding of the regional biotechnology ecosystem and key industry stakeholders.
Leadership and Influence
•
Established credibility with biotechnology executives, academic leaders, investors, and scientific communities.
•
Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
•
Ability to influence senior internal and external stakeholders and operate effectively within complex global organisations.
Scientific Expertise
•
Advanced scientific or medical degree required (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent).
•
Strong ability to evaluate scientific innovation and emerging technologies.
Additional Requirements
•
Fluency in Mandarin.
•
Experience operating within the local regulatory, business, and innovation environment.
•
Willingness to travel and represent CSL across the broader regional ecosystem.
