About the company
At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.
Our Team
The Ads Platform Engineering teams build advertising systems and integrations that power the delivery of ads using our world-class content delivery ecosystem. We use a number of Netflix investments and innovations to power our ads - a unique mix of client and server-side ad insertions, state of the art content delivery, ad encoding recipes, content understanding and metadata. We deliver ads in a manner that’s thoughtful of our members’ viewing experience and drive great outcomes for advertisers, while ensuring brand safety during serving.
About the role
Ads policies are the foundational guidelines that govern what ads can be shown, where they can run, and under what conditions on the Netflix platform. Policies ensure that every ad campaign complies with both local regulations and Netflix standards, by defining rules related to restricted categories, maturity levels, and brand restrictions. The Ads Policy Infrastructure team is responsible for building the platform-level components required to manage Netflix policies and ensure their enforcement across the entire ads ecosystem, including creative review, campaign setup, targeting, serving, Live, and reporting.
The Role
As a Software Engineer on Ads Policy Infrastructure, you will help build the systems that define, govern, evaluate, and explain advertising policy across Netflix’s ads ecosystem. You will own components end to end - from the policy service and its APIs to parts of the Ad Connect authoring experience - with support from senior engineers as you grow into full-stack ownership.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys turning ambiguous policy needs into working software. You will contribute to design discussions, deliver production code, and learn the domain alongside partners in Policy, Product, Operations, and consumer engineering teams.
What You’ll Do
•
Build and operate services and APIs (JVM services, GraphQL, gRPC) that compile authored policy into execution objects and serve policy decisions to consumer systems.
•
Build parts of the Ad Connect Policy module (React and TypeScript) so policy authors can create, inspect, and safely change rules, exceptions, and overrides.
•
Contribute to the migration of line-item and Live Manifest policy rules, using shadow evaluation, parity reporting, and rollback criteria to keep enforcement correct at every step.
•
Improve observability and operability of what you build: reason codes, decision traces, blocked-demand metrics, tests, dashboards, and alerts. Participate in on-call for the services your team owns.
Skills & Experience We’re Seeking
•
Production software engineering experience building services or user-facing applications, ideally on the JVM or with React and TypeScript, and a demonstrated desire to grow across the stack.
•
Solid fundamentals in API design, data modeling, and schema evolution, including an understanding of versioning and backward compatibility.
•
Comfort working with ambiguity: this is a new team building a new product, so requirements and boundaries evolve. You make progress without a predetermined solution and revise your decisions as the team learns.
•
An operational mindset: testing, monitoring, tracing, and ownership of the services you ship.
•
Strong collaboration and communication, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to engineering, product, and operations partners.
•
Ownership and drive: you follow a feature from design through deployment, operations, and improvement.
