About the role
This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Melbourne, FL to work with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This 10-12 week internship offers hands-on experience supporting project work.
You will assist with project work within monetary budgets and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The team serves education, corporate, and commercial markets while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You’ll Do
•
Assist with design portions of mechanical-system projects according to code and IMEG standards.
•
Assist with researching commercially available equipment resources.
•
Support client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files.
•
Assist with coordinating design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment-supplier disciplines.
•
Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
•
Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness before requesting a final check.
•
Assist with preparing and issuing addendum information.
•
Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement.
What You’ll Bring
Required Education
•
Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required
Required Skills/Abilities
•
Strong interest in design consulting
•
Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
•
Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
•
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
