Job Description
OVERVIEW
About the company
CAA Stellar is a world-leading sports agency and a global leader in football management, managing the careers of hundreds of elite athletes across the UK and internationally. We operate a “total management” model that blends data analytics, contract negotiations and commercial partnerships to support players on and off the pitch.
Our small, fast-paced finance team is looking for a positive, proactive Assistant Accountant who can get stuck in from day one. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will act as the Management Accountant’s right hand, supporting month-end close, intercompany and overseas reporting, VAT and day-to-day banking across our UK and international entities.
This is a varied role covering both financial and management accounting, so it would suit someone with exposure to both who wants to build their experience in each area.
We are looking for someone who is happy to crack on with tasks independently and take real ownership of their work, but who also knows when to shout for help.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Month-end close
•
Acting as the Management Accountant’s right hand, helping close the books accurately and on time each month.
•
Preparing and posting month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments and lease journals, ready for review.
•
Reconciling agreed balance sheet accounts, taking ownership of more accounts as experience grows.
•
Supporting the preparation of the monthly management accounts and helping explain movements against budget.
Overseas and intercompany
•
Preparing trial balances from our overseas entities and uploading them to SAP as journals.
•
Managing intercompany accounts between CAA Stellar and other CAA group entities, investigating and clearing mismatches.
•
Supporting the day-to-day ledgers and local compliance requirements for our European entities.
VAT
•
Pulling data from SAP and drafting the quarterly VAT returns for review.
•
Running a monthly VAT review of ledger data, flagging coding errors and incorrect VAT treatments.
Banking
•
Processing and, where needed, reprocessing daily bank postings in SAP.
•
Owning the bank reconciliations in SAP and keeping them up to date.
Year-end
•
Preparing schedules and reconciliations to support the year-end audit.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Essential
•
ACCA Applied Knowledge level or equivalent qualification.
•
A great attitude: positive, proactive and organised, happy to work independently while knowing when to ask for help.
•
A basic understanding of management accounts: what they are, what they show, and how they track performance against budget.
•
A sound grasp of double-entry bookkeeping, including journals, accruals and prepayments.
•
Experience drafting VAT returns, with a good understanding of VAT principles and the ability to check ledger data for coding errors and incorrect VAT treatments.
•
Experience with bank postings and reconciliations in an accounting system or ERP.
•
Confident Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs and XLOOKUPs.
•
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
•
Able to handle highly confidential information with complete discretion.
Desirable
•
1–2 years’ experience at a football club, sports agency, talent management business or similar, with an understanding of the pace and total privacy the industry demands.
•
Studying towards a chartered qualification such as ACCA or CIMA.
•
SAP S/4HANA experience (a big advantage).
•
European VAT experience (a big plus).
•
Exposure to intercompany accounting or multi-entity, international reporting.
