Thailand hosts more than 90,000 verified refugees in nine camps along the Thai-Myanmar border, one of the world’s longest-running refugee situations. Recent policies allowing refugees to work legally present important opportunities for self-reliance and social cohesion, but require continued advocacy, technical support, and coordination. At the same time, maintaining essential services, particularly health care, remains critical as the government advances the transition of camp services. Since 1975, the IRC has worked closely with the Royal Thai Government to support refugees, and currently facilitate the implementation of legal work opportunities, and strengthen the transition of health services within the camps
