About the role
As a Staff Network Systems Engineer at Mytra, you will be the technical owner and DRI for the network subsystem that ships as part of our robotic warehouse automation product. The network connects our robots, on-premises compute infrastructure, operator interfaces, and supporting systems, and its performance is fundamental to the operation of the overall Mytra system.
This is a product engineering role rather than a traditional corporate IT networking role. You will define what good looks like for networking at Mytra and own the subsystem from requirements and architecture through hardware selection, physical design, configuration, deployment, validation, and ongoing evolution. You will work across software, robotics, electrical, mechanical, systems, deployment, and operations teams to translate system requirements into a network architecture that performs predictably in complex industrial environments.
This is a hands-on design and implementation role. You should be equally comfortable designing a network topology, evaluating switches and wireless access points, determining AP placement, partnering on the design of a network cabinet, configuring equipment, establishing performance requirements and validation methodologies, and debugging difficult problems on a live robotic system.
What you’ll do:
•
Serve as the technical DRI for Mytra’s product network, defining and evolving the architecture supporting our robots, on-premises compute, operator interfaces, and other system components.
•
Own wired and wireless network design, including topology, switching, routing, addressing, segmentation, redundancy, QoS, wireless coverage, channel planning, roaming behavior, interference management, and capacity.
•
Translate robotics and application requirements such as latency, jitter, packet loss, throughput, availability, roaming performance, and fault tolerance into concrete network requirements, architectures, and acceptance criteria.
•
Own the selection, evaluation, qualification, and lifecycle of networking hardware, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, antennas, cabling, optics, and related components.
•
Own wireless architecture and AP placement for environments containing continuously moving robots, designing for predictable connectivity as robots move throughout large industrial structures and transition between access points.
•
Partner with Electrical and Mechanical Engineering on the physical design of the networking subsystem, including network cabinets, power, thermal management, cabling, serviceability, installation, and maintainability.
•
Define standard network configurations, deployment practices, and automation so a validated network architecture can be reliably reproduced across customer installations.
•
Develop network qualification, performance, and acceptance testing covering wireless coverage, roaming, latency, packet loss, throughput, redundancy, capacity, and performance under representative robot fleet loads.
•
Establish network observability, telemetry, diagnostics, and troubleshooting capabilities that allow Engineering and Operations teams to understand network health and quickly identify failures or degradation.
•
Lead investigation of complex system-level issues spanning robots, wireless connectivity, network infrastructure, on-premises compute, and application behavior.
•
Own the technical roadmap for the network subsystem as Mytra systems grow in physical scale, robot count, traffic volume, and deployment complexity.
•
Establish the standards, documentation, commissioning procedures, troubleshooting tools, and engineering practices that allow other teams to deploy, operate, and support the network effectively.
Ideal Candidates:
•
Have deep professional experience designing and deploying production network systems and the technical depth to independently own a networking subsystem from architecture through deployment and validation.
•
Have strong practical knowledge of Ethernet and IP networking, including switching, routing, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, QoS, redundancy, network segmentation, and network security.
•
Have strong practical knowledge of Wi-Fi and RF fundamentals, including 802.11 behavior, channel planning, interference, roaming, antenna characteristics, coverage, capacity, and spectrum analysis.
•
Have experience designing wireless networks for mobile clients where reliable roaming and handoff between access points is critical to system operation.
•
Have experience designing networks for challenging physical or RF environments. Experience with robotics, AMRs/AGVs, autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, manufacturing, logistics, ports, mining, industrial IoT, or similarly complex wireless systems is particularly relevant.
•
Understand network performance beyond basic connectivity and can reason quantitatively about latency, jitter, packet loss, throughput, availability, roaming behavior, congestion, and failure modes.
•
Have experience selecting, configuring, evaluating, and qualifying commercial networking hardware based on system requirements rather than simply deploying a predetermined vendor solution.
•
Have strong hands-on troubleshooting skills using packet capture, spectrum analysis, network telemetry, logging, and other diagnostic tools to investigate difficult network and wireless problems.
•
Are comfortable working directly with physical systems, including switches, access points, antennas, cabling, network cabinets, test equipment, robots, and deployed hardware.
•
Demonstrate strong systems thinking and can reason across networking, software, robotics, electrical, mechanical, and physical infrastructure boundaries.
•
Can take an ambiguous system-level problem, establish the requirements, make appropriate engineering tradeoffs, and independently drive the solution through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing ownership.
•
Operate effectively as a Staff-level technical leader, establishing standards and technical direction for an area where the broader organization may not already have deep domain expertise.
Nice to have:
•
Experience designing Wi-Fi networks for mobile robots, AGVs, AMRs, autonomous vehicles, or other continuously moving machines.
•
Experience with large industrial wireless deployments where metal structures, machinery, inventory, physical obstructions, reflections, and changing environmental conditions create challenging RF environments.
•
Experience with industrial Ethernet, industrial networking equipment, or networking systems designed for manufacturing and automation environments.
•
Experience building automated network configuration, Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, or zero-touch provisioning systems.
•
Experience developing automated performance, qualification, regression, or acceptance testing for network systems.
•
Experience designing high-availability networks where degraded network performance has direct operational consequences.
•
Experience with network security and segmentation for systems deployed into customer environments.
•
Experience partnering with electrical and mechanical engineers on integrated hardware systems, cabinets, enclosures, power, thermal, cabling, and serviceability.
•
Experience working directly with networking equipment vendors on product evaluation, technical issues, roadmap planning, component lifecycle, and obsolescence.
