About the Position
This role is based at the Company’s headquarters in Redwood Shores, CA and requires you to be onsite 3x/week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday). We will only consider candidates already based in the Bay Area.
Who You Are: Zūm is modernizing its iOS experience, and we’re looking for a Senior iOS Engineer to help drive that work. Our iOS surface area spans multiple apps — Driver, Parent, Student, School, and Charter — that need to feel like one coherent product, moving thousands of students, vehicles, and school districts through a real-time logistics network.
You’re a strong individual contributor who wants real influence over technical direction: architecture decisions, modernization strategy, and how the team approaches iOS engineering, while staying hands-on writing production code. This isn’t a feature-factory role — you’ll be a key voice in setting the technical bar for iOS at Zūm.
You’ll work closely with our mobile lead, product, design, and engineering leadership on what the platform should look like, then help build the efforts that get us there.
What You’ll Do:
•
Help own the architecture and technical roadmap for the iOS platform
•
Contribute to modernization efforts that move the codebase toward a modern, scalable, shared platform underneath multiple apps
•
Balance new feature delivery, legacy maintenance, and platform modernization work as we prepare the app for faster feature delivery
•
Partner closely with our mobile lead, product, design, and engineering leadership on technical direction, and collaborate with mobile engineering partners on shared work
•
Work across a wide surface area of APIs and services, bringing consumer-app polish to an operationally complex, enterprise-scale problem
•
Help set the technical bar for iOS at Zūm: code quality, architecture patterns, and how the team approaches modernization
•
Leverage AI tooling to accelerate development, improve code quality, and speed up modernization work
•
Modernize legacy features of the app toward current SwiftUI patterns without stalling feature delivery
•
Contribute to a shared platform layer that multiple Zūm apps (Driver, Parent, Student, School, Charter) can build on top of, instead of duplicating logic across codebases
•
Rework how the app handles a large and growing surface area of APIs so the codebase stays maintainable as complexity increases
•
Improve app performance and memory footprint, and build out telemetry/monitoring so the team can see how the app behaves in production
•
Help identify which parts of the current app are worth keeping versus updating, and execute
What You Bring To Zūm:
•
5+ years of professional iOS engineering experience, with real depth
•
Strong, current command of Swift and SwiftUI; you’re living in modern iOS development
•
Experience owning meaningful parts of a consumer-facing app end-to-end, not just a single feature, page, or internal tool
•
A product-first orientation: comfortable with infrastructure work, but your track record is primarily product-driven
•
Experience working in a complex, consumer-facing app environment (think feature-rich apps with a large user base vs. a narrow enterprise tool or an SDK)
•
Comfort contributing to architectural decisions and modernization efforts at scale
•
Experience modernizing a legacy iOS app while it’s still shipping features (preferred)
•
Background at a company with a small-to-mid-sized mobile team, where you had real hands-on ownership (preferred)
•
Experience partnering with an engineering leader or mobile lead on setting technical direction (preferred)
Bonus Points:
•
Domain experience in logistics, mapping, or fleet-style products
•
Experience working across multiple related apps sharing common infrastructure or design systems
