Role Overview:
Landor, Global Design Studio, is looking for a talented Senior Type Designer to join our multi-skilled and multicultural APAC studio team. The role focuses on creating strategically driven typographic solutions for global brands, with a strong emphasis on bespoke typefaces, wordmarks, lettering, corporate identity, and brand systems. We are looking for a designer with a deep passion for type, a keen eye for quality, and strong knowledge of typographic techniques, who can translate brand strategy and personality into distinctive, expressive, and expertly crafted typographic identities. The ideal candidate will have experience developing bespoke typefaces and wordmarks for international clients and a portfolio demonstrating exceptional conceptual thinking, creativity, innovation, and typographic craftsmanship. Working across APAC and Europe, the candidate will explore and conceptualise typography-led design solutions and lead projects from concept through execution, collaborating closely with global teams and clients across time zones.
What you’ll do:
•
Design, prototype, and develop bespoke typefaces and typographic systems for global clients, ensuring they align with brand strategy and personality.
•
Lead the end-to-end typographic design process, from concept, pitching, and prototyping through development, production, and font mastering.
•
Develop and deliver compelling presentations and pitches that clearly articulate the creative rationale, process, and design decisions.
•
Collaborate with strategists, brand designers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of typography into broader visual identity systems.
•
Maintain the highest standards of typographic craft, precision, consistency, and attention to detail throughout the design and production process.
•
Stay current with developments in type, typography, branding, and emerging design practices, bringing new thinking and innovation to the team.
•
Design and refine custom wordmarks and lettering, working closely with brand and creative teams to achieve distinctive and purposeful outcomes.
•
Collaborate with international teams to develop multilingual typefaces, ensuring consistency, functionality, and quality across multiple writing systems.
What you’ll need:
•
Extensive experience in type design, supported by a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional technical expertise, creative thinking, and typographic craftsmanship.
•
Advanced proficiency in Glyphs as the primary tool for typeface design, development, and production.
•
Strong technical knowledge of type development, including hinting, kerning, interpolation, OpenType features, and font optimisation.
•
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate creative rationale, design decisions, and typographic processes.
•
Deep understanding of branding and typography as a tool for visual identity, with a strategic perspective on how type functions across brand systems and touchpoints.
•
Experience managing type design projects for global clients, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and deliver to agreed timelines.
•
Excellent command of English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with international teams and clients.
•
Strong ability to design and develop Latin typefaces; experience across additional scripts and writing systems is a strong advantage.
