What will your summer look like?
As an intern, you’ll contribute to meaningful work while gaining hands-on experience in your chosen engineering discipline. You will work alongside experienced engineers on projects that strengthen communities, improve infrastructure, and shape the future.
But your experience won’t stop there. You’ll have opportunities to explore our other technical practice areas, helping you discover new interests and better understand where your career can take you. Whether you’re passionate about water, transportation, or environmental solutions, you’ll gain valuable insight into the diverse work we do across the firm.
We also believe internships are about more than technical experience—they’re about building your professional network. Throughout the summer, you’ll build relationships with other interns, early-career professionals, and leaders across Freese and Nichols through professional development, social events, and opportunities to learn from people throughout the firm.
What does the internship involve?
Our internships are designed to provide an immersive, collaborative experience. You’ll work closely with your team of experienced professionals in the office who are ready to answer questions and provide feedback, while collaborating with fellow interns and professionals.

A note about housing: Relocation and housing stipends are not provided for internship opportunities.
Our Facilities teams power our infrastructure projects, keeping critical facilities and transportation systems safe, reliable, and moving forward.
Structural - Provide end-to-end analysis, design, and construction administration for buildings, bridges, dams, and water projects, delivering high-quality plans, specifications, and technical reports.
Electrical - Design primary power distribution and emergency backup systems to keep clean water flowing. This includes vital safety studies, facility lighting, alarm networks, and advanced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) to automate and monitor operations.
Mechanical – Engineer high-performance HVAC and mechanical systems for a wide range of buildings, with deep expertise in warehouse and industrial design.

What You May Work On:
· Develop design plans, support hydraulic calculations and drainage studies, analyze data, build models, and help prepare technical reports and construction documents
· Build and review models using industry-standard engineering software
· Work with experienced engineers who will explain the “why”, not just give you a task
· Visit project sites and see how designs move from plans to reality
· Gradually take ownership of portions of real project deliverables
Qualifications
•
Current student pursuing a BS or MS degree in one of the majors listed above
•
Graduation date of August 2027 or later
Preferred Qualifications
