The University of Sydney’s Faculty of Medicine and Health (FMH) is seeking an outstanding academic leader to provide strategic leadership across its research portfolio and help shape the future of research excellence, collaboration and impact.
Working closely with the Dean, Faculty Executive, Heads of School and the University’s research leadership, the Deputy Dean (Research) / Associate Dean (Research) will lead the development and delivery of Faculty-wide research priorities, advancing research performance, capability, collaboration, translation and impact. This is a significant opportunity to influence the strategic direction of one of Australia’s leading faculties and strengthen its national and international research standing.
As a key member of the FMH leadership team, the appointee will play a pivotal role in translating the Faculty’s strategic ambitions and the University of Sydney Strategy 2032 into meaningful outcomes. They will drive initiatives across research investment, workforce development, research culture, infrastructure and governance, while fostering a high-performing, inclusive and collaborative research community.
The role will also strengthen strategic partnerships across the University and with external stakeholders, including industry, government, health and community organisations, to expand research opportunities and maximise the translation and impact of research.
Reporting to the Dean, FMH, with a dotted-line relationship to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), the appointee will work with considerable autonomy, building strong relationships and influencing across a complex and diverse academic environment. The successful candidate will remain research-active and bring a distinguished record of academic achievement, alongside the strategic vision and leadership capability to advance the Faculty’s research ambitions.
