The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers as well as Procurement, Engineering, Quality, Operations and Global Category teams to develop a competitive, reliable and technically capable supplier base.
This position is ideal for a hands-on mechanical engineering professional who combines strong manufacturing knowledge with strategic sourcing and supplier management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Development
•
Identify, scout and develop new suppliers for mechanical components and relevant manufacturing technologies.
•
Perform technical evaluation and capability assessment of potential suppliers.
•
Support supplier qualification and onboarding from initial evaluation through production readiness.
•
Participate in RFQ activities, including review of technical feasibility, manufacturing capability and supplier proposals.
•
Develop alternative and competitive sources to improve supply security, cost competitiveness and supplier capability.
•
Maintain strong market intelligence on suppliers, manufacturing technologies and sourcing opportunities.
New Product & Sample Development
•
Manage new component and sample development from RFQ through qualification and serial-production readiness.
•
Review engineering drawings, specifications, material requirements and manufacturing processes with suppliers.
•
Define and monitor development plans covering raw-material readiness, machining, heat treatment, inspection, testing and sample submission.
•
Coordinate development trials and resolve technical issues during component development.
•
Ensure timely closure of technical deviations and corrective actions.
•
Drive development projects to achieve agreed quality, cost and delivery objectives.
Technical Support
•
Provide technical expertise for CNC turning, CNC milling and precision machining of bar-stock components.
•
Assess manufacturing feasibility considering tolerances, machining processes, tooling, fixtures, inspection requirements and production capability.
•
Support resolution of supplier-related manufacturing, dimensional and quality issues.
•
Work closely with suppliers on root-cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
•
Support continuous improvement and manufacturing-process optimization at suppliers.
•
Apply sound engineering knowledge of alloy-steel grades and other engineering materials.
•
Understand material specifications, chemical and mechanical properties, hardness requirements, material certificates and traceability.
•
Evaluate technical requirements related to heat-treatment processes and their impact on material properties and subsequent machining.
•
Support technical assessment of material and process-related deviations.
•
Support development and supplier management of iron castings and finished machined components.
•
Understand the complete manufacturing route from raw material/casting through machining, inspection and final component qualification.
•
Work with suppliers to resolve casting, machining and dimensional issues.
Supplier Performance & Relationship Management
•
Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with key suppliers.
•
Monitor and support improvement of supplier performance related to quality, delivery, capacity and technical capability.
•
Conduct structured supplier reviews and ensure timely follow-up of agreed actions.
•
Identify potential supplier risks and implement appropriate improvement or mitigation actions.
•
Manage supplier escalations effectively and drive sustainable resolution.
Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration
•
Work closely with Procurement, Engineering, Quality, Operations, Planning/Logistics and Category Management.
•
Act as a key technical interface between suppliers and internal stakeholders.
•
Collaborate with Global Category teams on sourcing strategies and supplier-development opportunities.
