Make an impact through safe, reliable wastewater operations.As a Wastewater Treatment Operator, you’ll put your hands-on skills and problem-solving abilities to work operating, monitoring, and maintaining essential water and wastewater treatment systems that support plant operations and environmental compliance. Depending on the facility’s needs, your responsibilities may include wastewater laboratory analysis and the operation and maintenance of collection, pretreatment, and full treatment systems.
Key responsibilities include:
•
Collect samples and perform chemical analyses in laboratory and field settings in accordance with EPA, state, and health department requirements.
•
Interpret test results, adjust treatment systems, and make informed operating decisions to maintain regulatory compliance.
•
Perform calculations using basic algebraic formulas and a calculator.
•
Maintain accurate operating logs, prepare computerized reports, and complete monthly reports required by permits, regulatory agencies, and corporate management.
•
Troubleshoot equipment and perform minor to major maintenance using mechanical skills and basic electrical wiring knowledge.
•
Communicate system performance, operating conditions, and maintenance needs to management.
•
Operate a spotter truck and/or forklift as needed.
•
Support groundskeeping, painting, and general housekeeping to maintain work areas.
What You’ll Bring

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
•
Experience: One or more years of wastewater experience preferred.
•
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
•
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and management.
•
Work Skills: Basic organizational, mechanical, and electrical wiring skills.
Training and Certification Requirements
•
Complete a site-selected stormwater training program within 30 days.
•
Complete Industrial Waste Treatment, Volume I and Industrial Waste Treatment, Volume II correspondence courses through California State University, Sacramento, within 12 months.
•
Obtain the lowest-grade wastewater operator certification within 12 months or according to applicable state regulations.
•
Obtain and maintain required HAZ-MAT training.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This is a hands-on role that requires lifting heavy objects weighing 50–75 pounds and climbing or descending stairs and ladders. Work may include exposure to unsanitary conditions and hazardous chemicals, along with groundskeeping, painting, and general housekeeping duties.
Travel: One to two trips per year.
