Under the direction of the Director of Student Advocacy and Assistance, the Assistant Director of Student Advocacy and Assistance provides leadership, supervision, and operational oversight for Advocacy Coordinator Seniors across multiple campus locations. This position ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality student advocacy services, oversees complex and high-level case management, and promotes best practices in student support, crisis response, and case coordination.
The Assistant Director supervises professional staff, provides coaching and consultation on sensitive student situations, and collaborates with university leadership, faculty, staff, and community partners to develop and implement comprehensive support strategies that promote student success, retention, and well-being. The position is responsible for monitoring service delivery, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures, analyzing trends to improve operations, and fostering a collaborative, student-centered approach to advocacy across the institution.
In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Assistant Director maintains a caseload of complex student cases, provides advanced consultation and training to campus partners, represents Student Advocacy and Assistance on university committees and workgroups, and supports divisional initiatives and strategic priorities.
This position is based in the Office of the Dean of Students at the Tempe location and will travel to other locations.

Currently hiring for the following shift: Monday – Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm; remote or hybrid schedule is not applicable.
Essential Duties:
•
Recruit, supervise, coach, mentor, and evaluate Advocacy Coordinator Seniors across multiple campus locations to ensure high-quality performance and professional development.
•
Monitor for quality assurance, case documentation, and compliance with university policies, FERPA, and applicable regulations.
•
Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex student situations, providing strategic direction and decision-making support to advocacy staff.
•
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with university leadership, faculty, staff, and community partners to enhance student support services.
•
Lead team meetings, facilitate cross-campus communication, and ensure alignment with departmental priorities and strategic initiatives.
•
Manage a high-level caseload of complex situations that may result in significant community impact and require support across all campus locations.
•
Problem-solve complex situations which include: Title IX and VAWA, victims impacted by sexual, domestic, and/or interpersonal violence/harassment; create and implement action plans to support student needs.
•
Coordinate individualized action plans with students, families, faculty, staff, and community partners to facilitate appropriate referrals and support services.
•
Provide consultation to students, faculty, and staff regarding student-related concerns and complex situations.
•
Utilize strong decision-making skills to effectively provide support for all incoming concerns to ensure timely connection to services.
•
Support university retention initiatives through proactive student advocacy and intervention.
•
Manage highly sensitive and confidential student information in accordance with university policies and applicable regulations.
•
Serve as part of the Student Crisis Fund committee for review and awarding for those impacted by financial barriers
•
Support the overall success of Educational Outreach and Student Services by performing other duties as assigned and serving on university committees and workgroups.
Desired Qualifications:
•
Evidence of a Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education or related field of study.
•
Experience with professional staff recruitment, coaching, mentoring, and supervision experience (3+ years) within a multi-campus model.
•
Complex case management experience in higher education.
•
Experience assessing needs and implementing support measures of individuals.
•
Experience with crisis management, response and postvention.
•
Experience coordinating with university and community partners for student support needs.
•
Experience utilizing case management tools and databases, specifically Maxient, Salesforce, Peoplesoft, and Zoom Workplace.
•
Experience working in higher education with student populations.
Working Environment:
•
Use computers and other standard office technology in a typical office environment.
•
Participate in meetings, events, and other work-related activities in various campus locations.

Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is committed to enrolling all qualified students at Arizona State University and assisting them in their academic success. EOSS provides a broad range of services and support to students and prospective students ranging from outreach efforts with K-12 schools, orientation programs for new freshman, bridge programs to assist the transition to a university environment, and a wide variety of services, programs and activities for enrolled students. EOSS has direct responsibility for multiple departments across four campuses, some of which include the Dean of Students, University Housing, Health Services, Counseling Services, Disability Resources, the Memorial Union, TRIO programs, Sun Devil Fitness, Student Government, Student Media, Career Services, Access ASU and others.
