Team Overview
About the role
Trusted Call Solutions This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
Role Overview And Core Responsibilities
TransUnion is seeking a Software Architect to define and advance the architecture of enterprise-grade applications within our Trusted Call Solutions and Mobile Messaging product portfolio, including KONTXT-brand products, Branded Messaging, and Messaging Fraud Protection capabilities. This role will provide architecture leadership across complex, data-intensive platforms and partner with engineering teams to turn business strategy into scalable, secure, and supportable technology solutions.
Required Knowledge And Experiences
Key Responsibilities
•
Define and govern target architecture for enterprise-grade Java and Spring-based applications, APIs, data platforms, integrations, and messaging services.
•
Translate product and business strategy into architecture roadmaps, transition states, technical standards, and executable implementation plans.
•
Lead architecture and design reviews for new components, cross-system integrations, data flows, security controls, and significant system enhancements.
•
Establish scalable patterns for microservices, distributed systems, Kafka-based messaging, Cassandra and related data stores, RESTful APIs, and cloud-connected environments.
•
Guide modernization of legacy platforms toward cloud-ready or cloud-native architectures while balancing delivery risk, customer commitments, cost, and operational continuity.
•
Own and review architecture artifacts, technical specifications, nonfunctional requirements, decision records, reference architectures, and implementation estimates.
•
Partner with lead and senior engineers to validate designs through prototypes, critical-path implementation, performance testing, and production-readiness reviews.
•
Drive architectural improvements in scalability, performance, resilience, security, observability, maintainability, and supportability.
•
Provide technical leadership during complex production incidents, identify systemic causes, and sponsor durable architectural remediation.
•
Collaborate with product managers, engineering leaders, QA, DevOps, operations, security, data teams, and enterprise architects to resolve tradeoffs and dependencies.
•
Define and promote engineering standards for API design, data management, code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and release readiness.
•
Mentor technical leaders and engineers, communicate architectural intent clearly, and build broad adoption of sound engineering practices across geographically distributed teams.
Required Qualifications
•
12+ years of experience designing and developing enterprise software, including substantial experience with Spring-based Java services and distributed systems.
•
Deep experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Web, Spring Security, Spring Data, Kafka, Cassandra, and RESTful service architectures.
•
Proven success defining architecture for scalable, reliable, secure, production-grade backend platforms and high-volume data or messaging systems.
•
Strong command of object-oriented design, microservices architecture, integration patterns, data modeling, consistency and availability tradeoffs, and performance engineering.
•
Experience producing architecture roadmaps, reference architectures, technical specifications, nonfunctional requirements, architecture decision records, and delivery estimates.
•
Demonstrated ability to evaluate technology options, articulate tradeoffs, influence senior technical and business stakeholders, and create alignment without relying solely on formal authority.
•
Strong experience with production troubleshooting, observability, capacity planning, reliability engineering, and operational readiness for distributed applications.
•
Strong Linux skills and familiarity with AWS or comparable cloud technology.
•
Ability to remain technically hands-on through design validation, code and design review, prototyping, and resolution of complex technical issues.
•
Excellent written and verbal communication skills across engineering, product, QA, operations, security, architecture, and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
•
Experience with Spark or similar distributed data-processing technologies.
•
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container orchestration platforms.
•
Experience defining CI/CD, infrastructure automation, test automation, deployment standardization, and software supply-chain controls.
•
Experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or comparable tools.
