Responsibilities
Engineering Manager (Tubi, Inc.; San Francisco, California): Manage and mentor a team of backend software engineers. Conduct performance reviews, career development planning, and hiring. Establish engineering best practices for development, code review, and operational excellence. Promote sustainable on-call practices and production ownership. Lead the design and evolution of high-performance, client-facing APIs supporting homepage, search, autoplay, content detail, and other core user experiences. Architect and maintain distributed microservices running in Kubernetes. Drive architectural decisions for API gateway, traffic routing, data sanitization, and service-to-service communication (e.g., gRPC, REST). Ensure systems are optimized for scalability, availability, observability, and security. Define long-term technical direction for backend infrastructure supporting large-scale events and global traffic spikes. Oversee metadata management systems, including content licensing validation and availability window enforcement. Guide third-party data ingestion, normalization, and feed integration across multiple partner platforms. Lead backend support for multi-platform integrations (e.g., Google, FireTV, Apple, Samsung, Vizio, and others). Own and evolve unified API gateway and data firewall capabilities, including traffic control, compliance enforcement, and observability standards. Establish and improve failover and disaster-recovery strategies to ensure zero-downtime deployments and high system availability. Partner with Product, Legal, ML, and Client Platform teams to align backend architecture with business and regulatory requirements. Support personalization, recommendation, and content presentation capabilities through backend system design. Provide technical leadership during high-traffic campaigns and major global events. Establish standards for responsible use of AI-assisted development tools. Explore AI-enabled system optimization, anomaly detection, and developer tooling improvements. Ensure AI integration aligns with security, privacy, and compliance requirements. Position supervises a team of Senior Software Engineer, Backend, Software Engineer, Associate Software Engineer, and Senior Software Engineers. Hybrid permitted pursuant to company policy.
Salary: $275,176 – 302,693.60 per year

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Experience Requirements: Five (5) years of experience as a Backend Software Engineer, Software Engineer, or related occupation.
Must have experience with the following: designing and operating high-availability distributed systems serving large-scale production traffic; building and maintaining RESTful APIs and gRPC-based services; working with Kubernetes in production environments; implementing observability solutions (logging, metrics, and monitoring systems); Elixir; Rust in backend services; designing API gateways, proxy services, or data firewall systems; and building metadata management systems and content platform services.
