The Registrar’s Office at Towson University is committed to providing the highest level of service to students, faculty, and staff to facilitate student success, teaching excellence, and administrative integrity at Towson University. Our office serves in a collaborative and supportive capacity with all academic and administrative departments in furthering the mission of the Division of Enrollment Management and Towson University.
About the role
The Residency Coordinator manages all aspects of the residency petition process for continuing Towson University students adhering to the University System of Maryland Board of Regents’ Policy on Student Classification for Admission & Tuition Purposes. In addition to making determinations for in-state residency tuition status, the Residency Coordinator serves as the Registrar Office’s main point-of-contact for residency-related inquiries for reenrolling students, assists with reenrollment processing, and special registration programs.
The Residency Coordinator exercises independent judgment and initiative with limited supervision while performing a full range of administrative duties related to the day-to-day operations in the Residency & Reenrollment area, while projecting a professional, knowledgeable, and positive image of the University. The coordinator must manage sensitive and highly confidential documents with care and comply with University, FERPA, and USM tuition policies at all times.
Responsibilities
•
Manage the processing of undergraduate and graduate student petitions for in-state residency, ensuring the petition is accompanied by all supporting documents. Maintain a solid understanding and enforcement of the USM Board of Regents’ Policy on Student Classification for Admission and Tuition Purposes including all USM exceptions. Review and evaluate all residency petition documentation submitted by students. Follow up with students when materials are missing from the Residency Petition. Make residency determinations for students who wish to petition for in-state residency based upon the established policies, procedures, and deadlines. This initiative requires high levels of accuracy and attention-to-detail. The Residency Coordinator must oversee sensitive and highly confidential documents with care and comply with FERPA and USM tuition policies at all times.
•
Evaluate residency statuses for undergraduate and graduate students applying for reenrollment. Make residency determinations according to the USM in-state residency tuition policy. Perform outreach as necessary when questions arise, as well as gather necessary backup documentation. This outreach is constant and complicated in nature due the variety of residency circumstances students have. This requires strict adherence to the USM policy as well as maintaining internal consistency with documentation requirements and decisions. This is a duty that is constantly growing along with the increase in reenrollment applications.
•
Serve as main point-of-contact for residency petition, application, and other residency inquiries as it relates to all continuing undergraduate and graduate students. Respond to email, phone call and walk-up residency-related inquiries from students and parents. Provide documentation and support to the university’s Residency Appeal Committee and University administration as needed.
•
Manage Maryland Dream Act student population. Review system data to determine the population and provide outreach to these students to acquire necessary backup documentation required by the State. Provide continued outreach for the documentation. Make in-state status determinations for reenrollment students based on eligibility for the Maryland Dream Act.
•
Assist in maintaining the online Residency Petition, troubleshooting issues, and working with OTS when policy changes occur and the form needs to be updated. Update PeopleSoft and Salesforce as needed based upon residency status determinations. Serve as assistance with audits. Participate in USM residency related meetings as well as internal policy meetings. Create and update procedure manuals. Additional miscellaneous office duties including imaging/filing documents and confidential materials.
•
Assist with the processing of online reenrollment applications in Salesforce and Peoplesoft Campus Solutions, as needed. This requires knowledge of the processing procedures, transcripts, university policies, and evaluation of eligibility.
