Job Description Summary
The Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health seeks a teacher-scholar in Exercise Science who will contribute to the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs through high-quality teaching, an active program of research, and student mentorship. The successful candidate will bring expertise in exercise physiology and related areas that complements existing departmental strengths and supports the preparation of students for clinical, professional, and graduate careers. The faculty member will be expected to contribute to a collaborative academic environment and participate actively in the teaching, research, and service missions of the department.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Testing and Prescription, Research Methods, Experiential Learning/Capstone, and related kinesiology courses; establishing and maintaining an active research program; pursuing external funding; advising and mentoring students; and engaging in service at the departmental, college, University, and professional discipline levels. This is a full-time, tenure-track, on-campus position that requires regular campus presence and active engagement with students. The appointment is expected to begin in August
2027.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related discipline by the date of appointment.

Consideration may be given to candidates with:

Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Testing and Prescription, research Methods, and Experiential Learning/Capstone.

Postdoctoral research experience.
•
Professional certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (e.g., ACSM-EP, ACSM-CEP), the National Strength and Conditioning Association (e.g., CSCS), or another nationally recognized exercise science organization.
•
Evidence of collaborative scholarship or interdisciplinary research.
•
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health
The Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health is one of the largest in the College of Education, Health, and Society, with sustained enrollment growth and strong student demand. Faculty in the department maintain active research programs across motor behavior, biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, athletic training, health behavior, and related disciplines. The successful candidate will have access to well-equipped research facilities supporting human movement and performance research, including motion capture and biomechanical analysis systems, force platforms, body composition assessment, ultrasound imaging, exercise physiology laboratories, and other human performance testing resources.
Research Environment
The Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Health (KNH) offers a sophisticated, translational research infrastructure specifically designed to support high-impact Exercise Physiology. Our shared laboratory network facilitates seamless investigation across the physiological spectrum—from molecular pathways to systemic cardiometabolic and performance outcomes—providing an ideal environment for mechanistic, clinical, and applied research.
Core Research Infrastructure:
•
Human Integrative Physiology & Metabolism: Advanced capabilities for cardiometabolic phenotyping, including gold-standard indirect calorimetry (ParvoMedics TrueOne 2400), comprehensive body composition analysis (DEXA, InBody 770, ultrasound), and resting/exercise metabolic testing.
•
Vascular Physiology: Specialized infrastructure for hemodynamic assessment, featuring flow-mediated dilation, arterial stiffness analysis, microneurography, and continuous glucose monitoring to characterize vascular health.
•
Applied Exercise Testing: A large-capacity, adaptable space for clinical and physiological trials equipped with multiple treadmill and cycle ergometers, ECG systems, and on-site clinical chemistry diagnostics.
•
Molecular & Tissue Bioscience: A collaborative facility that integrates whole-body physiological data with cellular-level analysis, utilizing gene expression profiling (RT-PCR), histology, protein detection, and skeletal muscle tissue processing.
•
Pre-Clinical Opportunities: Use of the Laboratory Animal Resource (LAR) to conduct experimental physical activity and inactivity studies with rodents utilizing metabolic, behavioral, and functional phenotyping.
This integrated environment fosters a highly collaborative culture, providing faculty the flexibility to execute translational research and offer meaningful, hands-on training to undergraduate and graduate students.
