Job Description:
About the company
Our Story: More Than 150 Years of Bold Healing
Intermountain Health was built by people who refused to accept the impossible. In 1873, four Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth arrived in Denver with just $9 and a tiny wagon, raised money in saloons and mines, and opened Saint Joseph Hospital to care for anyone in need, regardless of ability to pay. In 1905, LDS Hospital opened its doors in Salt Lake City and was hailed as the finest hospital west of the Mississippi. In 1922, Primary Children’s Hospital was born from a simple, powerful conviction: every child deserves care. Today, it ranks among the nation’s top children’s hospitals.
In 1975, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made an extraordinary gift, donating its 15-hospital system to the communities it served and launching Intermountain as an independent, nonprofit health system. What followed was five decades of relentless innovation, national recognition for high-quality care at lower cost, and the creation of Select Health. In 2022, Intermountain Healthcare and SCL Health came together, uniting two proud legacies of compassion. Today, Intermountain Health is one of the nation’s leading nonprofit health systems, with more than 60,000 caregivers and 33 hospitals and about 400 clinics across Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming, all driven by one mission: helping people live the healthiest lives possible.
Philanthropy has fueled this story from the very beginning, and Intermountain Foundation carries that spirit forward every day. The Foundation builds relationships and partnerships that inspire generosity, turning donor vision into new hospitals, breakthrough technology, lifesaving research, and programs that reach families when they need it most. Its momentum is unmistakable: through Primary Promise, the largest philanthropic investment of its kind in Utah, donors surpassed a historic $600 million goal to build the nation’s model health system for children. For the next Children’s Health Executive Director of Philanthropy, this is more than a legacy to honor. It is a launchpad for what comes next.
The Children’s Health Executive Director of Philanthropy is a transformational leader who champions a bold vision for philanthropy across Intermountain Health’s Children’s Health enterprise. As one of the Foundation’s most influential leadership roles, this position inspires, develops, and empowers a high-performing team of major, planned, and blended giving professionals while driving extraordinary philanthropic outcomes from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Responsibilities
Serving as a trusted advisor to the presidents of Primary Children’s Hospital campuses, the Executive Director helps shape and advance strategic fundraising priorities that accelerate innovation, expand access to world-class care, and transform the lives of children and families throughout the region. This leader provides visionary stewardship of the Children’s Health Cabinet, aligning volunteer leadership, community champions, physicians, and hospital executives around ambitious philanthropic goals that fuel system-wide priorities.
In close partnership with the Canyons Region Vice President of Philanthropy, hospital leadership, the Foundation Board, and regional development teams, the Executive Director cultivates a vibrant culture of philanthropy, inspires generosity, and deepens community engagement across multiple markets and locations. The Executive Director leads by example, demonstrating excellence in donor engagement and creating opportunities for philanthropists to make a lasting impact on children’s health.
As the senior-most philanthropy leader for Children’s Health priorities, this individual mentors, coaches, and elevates a talented team of Philanthropy Officers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and performance. Through data-driven decision-making, clear metrics, and industry-leading best practices, the Executive Director ensures exceptional execution and measurable results.
Most importantly, this leader serves as a visible and passionate ambassador for the Intermountain Foundation, inspiring donors, volunteers, caregivers, and community partners to rally around a shared mission: creating a healthier future for every child. Through visionary leadership, strategic partnership, and relentless passion for the mission, the Children’s Health Executive Director of Philanthropy helps shape the future of pediatric healthcare and philanthropy across the Intermountain system.
