Role Summary
As a Java Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and supporting modern backend applications that power critical banking services. You’ll work across the full software delivery lifecycle, from development and testing to deployment and production support.
This role offers the opportunity to work with modern technologies including Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Microservices, PostgreSQL, and Azure DevOps, while contributing to high-quality, reliable, and scalable solutions in a global enterprise environment.
About the Team
You’ll join our Shared Tech team, an engineering-led and innovation-focused group that values collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Working closely with product owners, architects, DevOps engineers, quality engineers, and fellow developers, you’ll help deliver solutions that support ING’s mission of empowering people to stay a step ahead in life and in business.
What You’ll Do
•
Develop, enhance, and maintain backend applications using Java 17 and Java 21.
•
Design and implement microservices using Spring Boot and related frameworks.
•
Build and support RESTful APIs and enterprise integration solutions.
•
Write clean, secure, maintainable, and high-quality code.
•
Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance.
•
Design and optimize PostgreSQL database solutions, queries, and data models.
•
Build and maintain automated tests to support quality and reliability.
•
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using Azure DevOps.
•
Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
•
Investigate production issues and implement long-term improvements.
•
Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
•
Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering practices.
Required Skills
We’re looking for someone who brings:
•
Strong hands-on experience in Java development.
•
Experience with Java 17 and/or Java 21.
•
