SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Vice President Associate Chief Nursing Officer or Vice President Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Inpatient Nursing Services provides strategic, operational, fiscal, and clinical leadership for assigned inpatient care areas and oversees the delivery and continuous improvement of nursing practice across designated service lines.
The Director fosters a culture of quality, safety, service excellence, professional practice, employee engagement, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. The Director collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary leaders, staff, patients, and families to achieve organizational goals and exceptional patient outcomes.

Strategic Leadership
•
Develops and advances departmental goals, programs, and initiatives aligned with organizational priorities.

Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of patient care delivery models and clinical programs.
•

Clinical Operations, Quality, and Safety
•
Maintains accountability for clinical operations, quality outcomes, patient experience, and safety within assigned departments.
•
Ensures care delivery is evidence-based, patient-centered, culturally responsive, and aligned with professional standards.
•
Promotes a culture of safety, harm prevention, continuous improvement, and regulatory readiness.
•
Ensures compliance with Department of Health, CMS, Joint Commission, Magnet Recognition Program, and other applicable requirements.
Fiscal and Resource Management
•
Develops, administers, and monitors capital and operating budgets in alignment with organizational priorities.
•
Ensures effective use of human, financial, material, and technological resources.
•
Monitors labor productivity, staffing effectiveness, resource utilization, and budget performance.
•
Participates in business planning, resource forecasting, and allocation decisions to support operational goals.
Workforce Leadership and Development
•
Leads recruitment, retention, onboarding, development, engagement, and succession planning for leaders and staff.
•
Supports professional nursing practice, shared governance, interdisciplinary collaboration, and workforce engagement.
•
Directs performance management, including evaluation, coaching, mentoring, recognition, and corrective action.
•
Fosters a positive workplace culture grounded in accountability, respect, teamwork, inclusion, and leadership development.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
•
Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and improve outcomes.
•
Builds partnerships across departments and service lines to support continuity, consistency, and program development.
•
Represents nursing and assigned service areas in organizational committees, councils, task forces, and community collaborations.
Patient Experience and Service Excellence
•
Creates and sustains a patient- and family-centered culture focused on compassion, quality, and service excellence.
•
Ensures systems are in place to identify and respond to patient, family, and community needs.
•
Leads initiatives that improve patient satisfaction, communication, professionalism, and overall experience.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Education:
•
Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
•
Preferred: Master’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or a related field required.
Licensure:
•
Current Registered Nurse license, in good standing in the state(s) of practice. The employee is responsible for maintaining all required licensure and practice authority.
Credential Verification:
•
Employment is contingent upon satisfactory primary-source verification of required education, program completion, licensure and other credentials.
•
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications as required by area unless an approved exemption is granted and remains on file.
EXPERIENCE:
•
Minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible healthcare leadership experience in a complex healthcare environment.
•
Demonstrated success in inpatient operations, quality improvement, patient safety, workforce engagement, and fiscal management.
•
Experience leading interdisciplinary teams and managing multiple clinical service areas preferred.
•
Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements including CMS, Joint Commission, Department of Health, and Magnet standards.
•
Expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, healthcare operations, budgeting, and workforce planning.
•
Strong analytical, strategic planning, conflict resolution, and change management skills.
•
Ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams and manage complex organizational initiatives.
•
Proficiency in healthcare information systems and business applications.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Provides administrative, operational, and professional leadership for assigned inpatient and/or respiratory care departments, including direct supervision of nursing leadership roles and/or indirect oversight of clinical and support staff within the designated scope of responsibility. The number of FTEs and leadership positions supervised may vary by affiliate, service line, and operational scope.
Pay Range:
$139,068.80-$278,158.40
