Job Description
Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean of Students provides leadership and day-to-day administration of the Student Code of Community Standards, conduct matters, protection of student rights, and consistent application of university behavior standards. Complex, high-risk, major, appeal-related, or precedent-setting matters are escalated to the Dean of Students. The Assistant Dean also provides case management, routine follow-up and resolution of student issues, coordinates referrals, and collaborates with campus partners. The Assistant Dean serves as program coordinator for the Huskies Food Pantry, directing the work of assigned graduate assistants, student employees, interns, and volunteers, and helping connect students to campus and community resources.
Student Code of Community Standards
•
Responsible for day-to-day administration of the Student Code of Community Standards. Promotes community standards, safety, accountability, and student learning through educational processes that resolve alleged violations of institutional policies, rules, and/or regulations. Escalates complex, high-risk, major, appeal-related, or precedent-setting matters to the Dean of Students. May serve as a hearing officer, coordinate conduct meetings, develop educational outcomes, communicate with students and campus partners, and support consistent implementation of conduct procedures. Provides training and guidance for hearing officers, Student Conduct Board members, graduate assistants, interns, and others supporting the conduct system. This role provides leadership in implementing comprehensive and individualized responses to student emergencies as well as non-clinical outreach and support to students experiencing challenges. This includes, but is not limited to, interacting with students and their support systems, student affairs departments, academic units, and other campus partners to coordinate University response to students’ needs. The Assistant Dean also chairs the Husky Assistance and Care Team (ACT) in the absence of the Dean of Students.

Student Support, Case Management, and Crisis Follow-up
•
Provides case management and routine student concern follow-up and resolution of issues in partnership with the Dean of Students. Manages assigned student concern cases, conducts routine outreach and follow-up, coordinates referrals, and assists students in navigating University systems and resources. Works with students and, when appropriate, student support systems, faculty, staff, academic units, student affairs departments, and campus partners to coordinate support. Consults with and provides recommendations and escalation of high-risk or crisis-related situations to the Dean of Students.

Basic Needs and Huskies Food Pantry Program Coordination
•
Serves as program coordinator for the Huskies Food Pantry and supports basic needs initiatives. Coordinates day-to-day program structure, service processes, student access, communication, and operational consistency in alignment with the Dean of Students Office. Prioritizes and operationalizes new growth opportunities and partnerships for the Food Pantry. Supervises or directs the graduate assistant assigned to pantry operations and provides lead work direction, training, scheduling guidance, and support for student employees and volunteers. Collaborates with campus and community partners to support food security, student emergency support, and referral pathways. Assists with usage, inventory, operational data, communication, and information for reports or planning as requested.

Assessment, Policy Review, and Operational Reporting
•
Conducts operational assessment and reporting for assigned areas and provides data, summaries, and annual trend information to the Dean of Students. Collects, reviews, and summarizes operational data to evaluate conduct processes, student support systems, food pantry operations, and related interventions. Reviews applicable policies and procedures within assigned areas to support compliance with university policies, Minnesota State guidance, state and federal requirements, and professional standards. The Assistant Dean provides factual and comprehensive analytics, assessment, and evaluation to the Dean of Students and Vice President for Student Affairs on trends impacting student experiences.

Student Records, Compliance, and Confidential Files
•
Responsible for administration, maintenance, security, and proper disclosure of confidential student files and student conduct records. Ensures compliance with records retention policies and applicable local, state, federal, University, and Minnesota State regulations, including FERPA, Clery-related requirements, Minnesota Government Data Practices Act considerations, and other privacy or reporting obligations. procedures, Minnesota State System guidance, state and federal legislative requirements, and standards of best professional practice in student conduct and student outreach.

Title IX and Investigative Support
•
Provides assistance with investigative, referral, documentation, and student support functions related to the University’s Title IX obligations, as assigned. Collaborates with appropriate University officials to ensure students receive information, referrals, options, and supportive resources consistent with university policy and applicable requirements.

Educational Outreach, Campus Consultation, and Communication
•
Provides educational outreach regarding community standards, conflict resolution, the Student Code of Conduct, student rights and responsibilities, student support resources, referral processes, and basic needs resources. The Assistant Dean is responsible for effective communication of community standards and Student Code of Conduct policies, procedures and services through the delivery of print and online content. The Assistant Dean collaborates with various University departments to facilitate effective communication and coordination related to community standards and student of concern outreach.

Other Duties as Assigned
•
Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications
•
Master’s degree in College Counseling, Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or closely related field.
•
At least three years of directly related professional student affairs experience, including knowledge of student development theory, student conduct processes, student support or case management practices, and applicable laws and regulations such as Clery, Title IX, FERPA, and related privacy requirements.
•
Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, organizational, analytical, crisis management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
•
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and collaborate with students, families, faculty, staff, and campus/community partners.
Preferred Qualification
•
Previous supervisory, lead worker, or graduate assistant/student employee supervision experience.
•
Experience with assessment, reporting, or data-informed program improvement.
•
Experience coordinating student support, basic needs, food pantry, emergency aid, student conduct, behavioral intervention, or students of concern processes.
