About the company
Priority Patient Transport is a Virginia-based emergency and non-emergency medical transportation provider. We run ambulance and wheelchair transport out of six locations across the Shenandoah Valley and Central Virginia, serving hospitals, skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, hospice agencies, and non-emergency medical transportation brokers.
About the role
We are hiring a Medical Biller to join our billing team. This is a remote, full-time role on a small team where your work is visible and it matters — every claim you clean up is cash in the door.
What you will do
•
Review completed transports for billable documentation: level of service, loaded mileage, origin and destination, signatures, and Physician Certification Statements.
•
Build and submit clean claims across our payer mix — NEMT brokerages (Modivcare, MTM, SafeRide, Access2Care, MediDrive), Medicare, Medicare Advantage, commercial carriers (Anthem / BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Aetna, Cigna, Sentara), Medicaid MCOs, VA Community Care, facility accounts, and patient self-pay.
•
Post payments and adjustments from 835 remittance files, EOBs, and broker payment reports.
•
Work denials and rejections: read the reason code, correct the claim, appeal when the denial is wrong, and resubmit.
•
Follow up on unpaid claims by aging bucket. Call payers. Document every touch.
•
Verify eligibility and benefits, and confirm trip authorizations in broker portals.
•
Chase missing documentation — PCS forms, signatures, and face sheets — from facilities and crews.
•
Generate patient statements and handle patient billing calls with patience and professionalism.
•
Keep your work queue current and flag payer patterns you see repeating.
What we require
•
Two or more years of medical billing experience with full-cycle claims: submission, posting, denials, and follow-up.
•
Experience reading and acting on an EOB or ERA — you can look at a denial code and know what to do next.
•
Comfortable on the phone with payers and with patients.
•
Accurate and organized. In this job, detail is the job.
•
Reliable high-speed internet, a private home work space, and availability during Eastern business hours.
•
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strongly preferred
•
Ambulance, EMS, or NEMT billing experience. If you have it, this role will feel familiar from day one and you will be considered first.
•
Knowledge of HCPCS A0425–A0434, origin and destination modifiers, and ALS / BLS / SCT levels of service.
•
TraumaSoft experience — mention it in your first line.
•
NEMT broker portal experience.
•
Virginia Medicaid or Virginia MCO experience.
•
CPC, CPC-A, CAC, or similar certification.
If you have solid medical billing experience but have never billed ambulance claims, still apply. We will train the ambulance specifics for the right person who is accurate, dependable, and good on the phone.
