About the role
About Wefunder
We’ve raised over a billion dollars for thousands of founders in all 50 states, from ostrich farms to unicorns like Substack, Replit, & Mercury.
We’re a Public Benefit Corporation with a mission to keep the American dream alive. We’re fighting to keep America defined by optimism, innovation, and opportunity—the best place for the ambitious to turn ideas into reality.
We believe America is full of untapped talent, and that helping more founders get off the ground leads to a better future. Our goal is to help 20,000 more founders get off the ground. We’re just getting started.
We’re a team of founder types: enjoy autonomy, responsibility, the opportunity to learn, and no red tape. Just make it happen.
The Role
We’re looking for engineers who can help us wrangle complex systems and delight users along the way.
Over 70% of our new code is AI-generated. We’re not just using AI — we’re deep in the weeds figuring out how to build reliable, production-grade software with it. What does code review look like when 500 agents made a PR last night? How do you maintain quality across a codebase when everyone in the company is vibe coding? These are the questions we’re answering in real time, and this role is at the center of that.
We want someone who’s excited to shape that playbook — to experiment with new tools, push the boundaries of what’s possible, and help define how a small team punches way above its weight with AI as a force multiplier.
As a Wefunder engineer, you’ll have a tremendous amount of influence, the ability to make a huge impact, and be expected to work on a little of everything. There’s no red tape. It’s a small team, and we move fast.
We’re very good at figuring out visa sponsorship when required.
Location & Culture
We’re strong believers in an in-person culture. Our HQ is in San Francisco — we have two offices, one in the Mission and one in Seacliff with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
We’re a small team of ~30 that hires carefully. In this new AI world, one star can outcompete 10 average people. We’d rather stay lean, move fast, and spend our time building — not navigating big-company bureaucracy.
We’re tight-knit enough to spend 10 days on a train together without killing each other. Four times over the years, we’ve all taken the Amtrak coast to coast, stopping in 12 cities. We’re a team of doers and thinkers who are insatiably curious — not just about work, but about kickboxing, mountaineering, chess, and everything in between.

What We’re Looking For
•
Complexity wrangler
We move money, deal with securities law, and serve both founders and investors. Our systems are complex by nature. You’re someone who can navigate that complexity and keep things simple where it counts.
•
Thrives in chaos
Ability to deal with the chaos and ambiguity of a startup. Things change, surprises happen. There will be uncertainties in and out of our control. Our job is to ship product and keep the money flowing.
•
Sweats the details
We’re building a platform where people invest real money. Every pixel, every error state, every edge case matters. You care about the user experience as much as the architecture underneath it.
•
AI-excited
You’re genuinely excited about AI tools and figuring out the new playbook. Over 70% of new code is AI-generated. We’re rewriting the rules of how software gets built, and we want people who are energized by that — not threatened by it.
Requirements
•
Smart > experienced
We don’t care what languages or frameworks you’ve used before. If you’re smart, you’ll figure it out. We use Rails and React, but what matters is that you can build things that work.
•
AI-native
You are on the bleeding edge of AI tools. You use Cursor, Codex, Claude, or whatever’s your favorite CLI — not as a novelty, but as a core part of how you generate code and think through problems.
•
Full stack
You can build and ship a feature end-to-end. Frontend, backend, database, deploy. No hand-offs, no waiting around.
Example Projects
•
Real-Time Money Ledger
We move hundreds of millions of dollars for startups. Build the system that tracks every dollar in real time — from investor wallet to founder bank account — with full audit trails and securities compliance baked in.
•
Tinder for Founders
Build a matching engine that connects investors with the startups they’ll love based on interests, investment history, and geography. Swipe right on the next unicorn.
•
AI Deal Room
Create an intelligent due diligence assistant that helps investors evaluate startups faster — pulling in financials, market data, and founder track records so they can make smarter bets in minutes, not weeks.
Benefits
•
$160k – $250k plus equity depending on experience
•
Unlimited vacation days (mandatory 3 weeks off)
•
Medical, dental, & vision insurance
•
401K
•
Unlimited AI tokens & tool budget — Cursor, Claude, Codex, you name it
•
Apple equipment — whatever you want
•
Lots of free food and drinks
•
Reimbursement for classes and conferences
Brownie Points
•
Experience with payments, security, or “compliance”-type problems.
•
Scaled systems with 100k / 1m / 10m / 100m / 1b transactions.
•
You are a former founder or a future one — the problem we’re working to solve feels personal to you.
•
You thrive building 0-to-1 product experiments faster than anyone else — from napkin sketch to shipped MVP before the week is out.

About Wefunder
We’re the Robinhood for pre-IPO startups. We allow everyone to invest $100 in a startup they love.
Over the past five years, we’ve helped fund over 900 startups with $500m – including flying cars, space rockets, breweries, Hollywood studios, and potential Ebola cures.
We’re now doubling the size of our team to handle the growth. Trying to keep up!
We’re also a public benefit corporation with a mission of saving the American Dream (https://wefunder.com/charter). Our aim is to sprinkle the Silicon Valley fairy dust across the rest of the country, which often don’t have the same opportunities we take for granted.
