Summary
We’re looking for a senior engineer who wants to lead a team while staying hands-on with cloud and Kubernetes.
Job description
You’ll lead a team of 9 engineers working on services that are part of the ESET XDR platform. As Team Lead, you’ll be responsible for the people in the team, including regular 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, goals, career development and compensation.
Responsibilities
Around 30% of your time will be focused on team leadership. The rest will be hands-on engineering work, mainly around Microsoft Azure, AKS, Kubernetes, Terraform and Helm.
You’ll help design and evolve the architecture of our production cloud environment. We currently run Kubernetes clusters across 5 production regions, and the environment is continuously evolving. You’ll work on scaling, performance, reliability, cost optimization, monitoring, logging and security, including addressing security findings.
You’ll work closely with other senior engineers, architects, Product Owners and Security. For new solutions, you’ll help shape the architecture, discuss the trade-offs with the team and work with Security on threat modelling and security requirements.
This position is directly located in Brno, Czechia, so that is no option to work remotely from other destination.
What will you do:
Team Leadership:
* Lead a team of 9 engineers and help create an environment where people can grow and do their best work
* Hold regular 1:1s, provide feedback and support individual development
* Set and follow up on individual goals and development plans
* Lead performance reviews and contribute to compensation decisions
* Support the team in solving day-to-day challenges and work with Product Owners on priorities and delivery
* Collaborate with other engineering teams across ESET
Cloud & SW engineering:
* Design, build and operate services running on Azure and AKS
* Design and evolve Kubernetes architecture for microservices, including scaling, networking, ingress and service-to-service communication
* Work hands-on with Terraform and Helm to manage infrastructure and application deployments
* Integrate Kubernetes workloads with Azure services such as Storage, PostgreSQL, Key Vault and Event Hubs
* Work with messaging and networking components such as RabbitMQ, Load Balancers, public APIs, Kuma service mesh and Nginx or other ingress controllers
* Improve performance, reliability, scalability and cloud cost efficiency across our production environment
* Monitor and troubleshoot production systems, including logs, metrics and other observability data
* Address security findings and continuously improve the security of the cloud environment
* Maintain and improve our Jenkins-based CI/CD, including building Docker images and publishing them to Azure Container Registry
* Participate in technical discussions and architecture decisions with other senior engineers, architects and Security
* Contribute to threat modelling and help turn security requirements into practical technical solutions
Our requirements:
* Several years of experience in software, cloud or platform engineering, with strong hands-on experience in production environments * Strong practical experience with Kubernetes, ideally AKS, including architecture, deployment, scaling, troubleshooting, networking and security * Experience designing and operating microservices in Kubernetes * Strong experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code * Good working knowledge of Helm and Kubernetes-based application deployments * Solid understanding of **Microsoft Azure** and experience integrating Kubernetes workloads with Azure services * Experience with containers and Docker * Experience with CI/CD, ideally Jenkins, and container image build and deployment workflows * Good communication skills and the ability to give and receive feedback * Experience leading, mentoring or coordinating engineers * Fluent English for daily communication
Nice to have:
* Experience with Python or scripting for automation
* Experience with RabbitMQ or other messaging systems
* Experience with Kuma or another service mesh
* Experience with Nginx or other ingress controllers
* Experience with Jenkins / Groovy
* Experience with Azure security and identity
* Experience with threat modelling or working closely with security teams
* Experience working in enterprise or security-focused products
